New York Times bestselling author Rachel Hawkins serves up a deliciously royal romance, perfect for fans of Sarah Dessen and Huntley Fitzpatrick.
Meet Daisy Winters. She's an offbeat sixteen-year-old Floridian with mermaid-red hair; a part time job at a bootleg Walmart, and a perfect older sister who's nearly engaged to the Crown Prince of Scotland. Daisy has no desire to live in the spotlight, but relentless tabloid attention forces her join Ellie at the relative seclusion of the castle across the pond.
While the dashing young Miles has been appointed to teach Daisy the ropes of being regal, the prince's roguish younger brother kicks up scandal wherever he goes, and tries his best to take Daisy along for the ride. The crown--and the intriguing Miles--might be trying to make Daisy into a lady . . . but Daisy may just rewrite the royal rulebook to suit herself.
New York Times bestselling author Rachel Hawkins brings her signature humor, love of Americana, and flair for romance to this page-turning Princess Diaries turned-upside-down story.
My Thoughts:
I have long been a fan of Rachel Hawkins books. I read Hex Hall back before I started blogging and have eagerly anticipated (and loved!) every book of her’s since then! (Check out my love for Rebel Belle and Journey’s End.) But this book. Oh, this book. I have been anticipating it ever since Rachel mentioned it on twitter years ago. I don’t even know that it was a book she had sold then… perhaps just an idea. Either way, I knew that if Rachel Hawkins wrote a book about contemporary young royals it was a book I needed. I was not wrong!
I simply ate this book up. It’s been taking me awhile to get into books lately but not this one. I couldn’t put it down! It was everything I hoped it’d be and more! It was just so Rachel!
The thing I tend to love most about Rachel’s books is her humor. It’s just totally my thing. Snarky and witty but not mean spirited… I laughed and laughed and laughed while reading this one. But, as with Rachel’s other books, Royals isn’t just a funny book. There is so much heart to the story. The characters are interesting and I loved seeing how the main character, Daisy, realized that there might just be more to the people around her than she at first assumed. People are messy and often project the persona they want you to see. Royals shows this, as well as the importance of giving people another chance, but still being true to yourself. But with humor. I LOVED IT!
As I said on twitter, if you had given me the synopsis for this book I 100% would want Rachel Hawkins to write it. I knew that she would make it just the right blend of humor and heart, with a dash of zany. Which is totally my jam. Highly recommend.
