Posing as one of Robin Hood's thieves to avoid the wrath of the evil Thief Taker Lord Gisbourne, Scarlet has kept her female identity secret from all of Nottinghamshire. Only Robin and his band know the truth. As Gisbourne closes in, helping the people of Nottingham could cost Scarlet her life, but her fierce loyalty to Robin-whose quick smiles have the rare power to unsettle her-keeps Scarlet going and makes this fight worth dying for.
I’m not really sure what took me so long to read this book! I mean, a re-telling of Robin Hood? With a girl in disguise? And secrets? Clearly this is a Heidi book! I mean, I bought it for goodness sake! Clearly I wanted to read it! Yet, as is too often the case, Scarlet languished unread in a stack of books I meant to get to. Then, back in February, I saw Anna’s review of Lady Thief. This reignited my need to read Scarlet!
I admit that it did take a little bit for me to get the rhythm of the story. It’s written in the dialect of the main character. This always takes me a bit to get used to. However, once I acclimated to the dialect I simply couldn’t put the story down!
Scarlet is a great character. She has so many secrets and stories that I wanted to know! I loved how we got to know her bit by bit as the story progressed. She is just so complex! I also really loved the ways she interacted with Rob, his band, and the people that they’re helping.
Basically, Scarlet is a must read for fans of re-tellings or just plain good stories. I cannot wait to get my hands on Lady Thief!

I read this for a local book club, and loved it as well! Yeah, took me a minute to get into, but then it was really REALLY good.
