When Penny Lane started The Lonely Hearts Club, the goal was simple: to show that girls didn’t need to define themselves by how guys look at them, and didn’t have to value boyfriends over everything else. Penny thought she’d be an outcast for life…but then the club became far more popular than she ever imagined it would be.

But what happens when the girl who never thought she’d date a good guy suddenly finds herself dating a great one? She doesn’t need a boyfriend… but she wants it to work out with this particular boyfriend. And he wants it to work out with her.

Only, things keep getting in the way. Feelings keep getting hurt. Words keep getting misunderstood.

Penny Lane worked hard to declare her independence. Now she needs to figure out what to do with it — and how to balance what she wants with what everyone else wants. In We Can Work It Out, Elizabeth Eulberg returns to the world of her first novel, The Lonely Hearts Club, and gets to the heart of how hard relationships can be… and why they are sometimes worth all the drama and comedy they create.

My review of book one, The Lonely Hearts Club

Note: There are three short stories that take place between The Lonely Hearts Club and We Can Work It Out. The ebooks are free! I highly suggest reading them before reading We Can Work It Out. You totally don’t need to, but I really think it adds to the story. Learn more at Elizabeth’s website.

My Thoughts:

We Can Work It Out is such a great follow-up to The Lonely Hearts Club! It has everything I loved from book one (the humor, the friendships, the romance, the Beatles!!) plus so much more.

I just can’t get enough of Penny Lane Bloom and her crazy yet wonderful life! In We Can Work It Out she’s really struggling with balancing the different aspects of her life. I could relate to that (as a teen and still today!) There were so many times that I cringed in empathy for the things she was going through and the decisions she was making! They were totally things I could see teen me (and my friends) doing!

Again, the friendship aspect of the story really steals the show. I love seeing a group of high school girls working together to accomplish big things and supporting one another. Teens are pretty awesome people and it’s great to see that recognized.

Really, you just need to read The Lonely Hearts Club and We Can Work It Out. They’re fun and engaging and leave you with a smile. What more can you ask for?

I loved The Lonely Hearts Club. I think it is my favorite Eulberg book (of the ones I’ve read). So I’m definitely curious about this one. I’m glad to hear that you really enjoyed this.

And yay for girls supporting each other!
