An emotionally cathartic story of losing love, finding love, and discovering the person you are meant to be, I Have Lost My Way is bestselling author Gayle Forman at her finest.  “A beautifully written love song to every young person who has ever moved through fear and found themselves on the other side.” – Jacqueline Woodson, bestselling author of Brown Girl Dreaming

My Thoughts:

I have been a huge fan of Gayle Forman ever since I read If I Stay back in 2011. If you read my review you can see that I connected with that one in a really personal way. I went on to read and love Where She Went. And Just One Day, and Just one Yearand I Was Here. And I really loved Gayle’s adult novel, Leave Me. So, yes. I really like Gayle’s books and I was so excited for this one! It was worth the wait.

I Have Lost My Way is another one of Gayle’s books that I connected to on a really personal level. Teenagers are certainly not the only people who have to figure out what direction they want to go. It’s a choice we have to make again and again throughout life. Sometimes those choices lead us to places we didn’t anticipate and we have to try and figure out where to go from there. I really loved how this book showed three characters in such a situation.

There were so many things I loved about the telling of this story. I love that we get chapters from the perspectives of each of the three main characters. I loved that we got to know them before they meet. I loved that we then see their lives intersect. I loved seeing each character from the perspective of the others. I loved seeing how small moments in time can have lasting impacts. I loved seeing events of each of the characters’ pasts and how they shaped the present and contributed to them losing their way. I just loved it all!

Gayle Forman weaves the lives of Freya, Harun, and Nathaniel together into such a beautiful and hopeful story. This one will stay with me.
