About the Book: A breathtaking journey toward self-discovery and true love, from the author of If I Stay
When sheltered American good girl Allyson “LuLu” Healey first meets laid-back Dutch actor Willem De Ruiter at an underground performance of Twelfth Night in England, there’s an undeniable spark. After just one day together, that spark bursts into a flame, or so it seems to Allyson, until the following morning, when she wakes up after a whirlwind day in Paris to discover that Willem has left. Over the next year, Allyson embarks on a journey to come to terms with the narrow confines of her life, and through Shakespeare, travel, and a quest for her almost-true-love, to break free of those confines.

Just One Day is the first in a sweepingly romantic duet of novels. Willem’s story—Just One Year—is coming soon!

My Thoughts: I am both kicking myself for waiting to read this one and thanking my lucky stars that I held off. Kicking myself because I loved it and wish I could have met these characters sooner. Thanking my lucky stars because I don’t think I could have handled the wait for Just One Year. As it is I can tell the two weeks until release are going to be torture! And that is only a slight exaggeration.

I am absolutely in awe of how completely I fall in to Gayle Forman’s books. Seriously head over heels. It’s like she reaches out and ties my heart to her characters and their stories. All of my focus goes into the reading experience. If I try to do anything else I’m useless. I just keep thinking about the book and dying to get back to it.

Just One Day was no exception. I loved how much time the book spanned. The year from graduation to the summer after your freshman year in college is such a transition. Even more so for Allyson. She has such high highs and low lows. The reader really gets to see her through it all.  While she (and some of the other characters) drove me crazy at times, I am so glad I “met” them. I cannot recommend Gayle Forman’s books highly enough. She gets me every. time.
