Dash and Lily have had a tough year since they first fell in love among the shelves of their favorite bookstore. Lily’s beloved grandfather suffered a heart attack, and his difficult road to recovery has taken a major toll on her typically sunny disposition.

With only twelve days left until Christmas—Lily’s favorite time of the year—Dash, Lily’s brother Langston, and their closest friends must take Manhattan by storm to help Lily recapture the unique holiday magic of a glittering, snow-covered New York City in December.

My Thoughts:

I read Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares back in 2010 and really enjoyed it. As I’ve mentioned before, I am not really a fan of holiday stories. Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares was one of the rare exceptions. So, I was beyond thrilled when I learned a companion novel was coming! I’m happy to say I enjoyed The Twelve Days of Dash & Lily as much as the first one.

First things first, the Lily in this book is not the same Lily we met in Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares. She has lost some of that relentless optimism and Christmas spirit. I was so interested in seeing what lead to her change and how it made her look at her life. She really begins to question the things around her. I found this to be really authentic.

Through the course of the book Dash and Lily’s brother are working to help her find her joy again. It’s very sweet. However, as with the first book, things don’t always turn out like they planned! The dual perspective lets the reader see Dash’s intentions but also how Lily interprets things. This really highlighted how important it is to actually talk to the people who are important to you! I loved seeing how Dash and Lily had changed and how that made their relationship different.

The Twelve Days of Dash & Lily was such an enjoyable read. It had me laughing (oh man, did I laugh!) and tearing up.  Re-reading both these books might just become a holiday tradition!
