It’s Tiny Cooper’s turn in the spotlight in this companion novel to New York Times bestseller Will Grayson, Will Grayson.

Jazz hands at the ready! Tiny Cooper (“the world’s largest person who is also really, really gay”) stole readers’ hearts when he was introduced to the world in the New York Times bestselling book Will Grayson, Will Grayson, co-authored by John Green and David Levithan. Now Tiny finally gets to tell his story—from his fabulous birth and childhood to his quest for true love and his infamous parade of ex-boyfriends—the way he always intended: as a musical! Filled with honesty, humor, and “big, lively, belty” musical numbers, the novel is told through the full script of the musical first introduced in Will Grayson, Will Grayson.

My Thoughts:

I loved Will Grayson, Will Grayson oh so very much. And Tiny Cooper? He just steals the show! I mean, why is Tiny Cooper not a real person?!? Seriously. I just want to be friends with him.

Obviously I wanted Hold Me Closer to be a real thing when I first read Will Grayson, Will Grayson. Who didn’t?!? So, you can imagine that I was VERY excited when I heard about Hold Me Closer: The Tiny Cooper Story. And then? When they had ARCs at ALA?!? CUE FANGIRL FREAKOUT!! I even had a friend take a picture of me pretending to steal an ARC:

But then, joy of joys!! David Levithan was there signing ARCs so I was able to snag one. I devoured that sucker in one sitting. It. Was. Awesome.

As I expected, Hold Me Closer: The Tiny Cooper Story was hilarious. The songs, Tiny’s notes, everything… so, so funny. What I didn’t expect (but loved just as much, if not more!) were the more touching and thought provoking moments. Tiny tells his life story with flair and panache. But he’s also reflecting on events and what he’s learned. Together, it’s basically perfection.

Clearly this story is focused on Tiny and his life. Still, we get glimpses of other characters from Will Grayson, Will Grayson and we get to see some of the events from Tiny’s perspective. I really loved this!

Fans of Will Grayson, Will Grayson simply cannot miss Hold Me Closer: The Tiny Cooper Story by David Levithan. It was a complete treat to read!
