RoS Tour Banner

I have been a fan of Sophie Jordan’s writing since I read Firelight way back when I first started blogging. Sophie was one of the first authors I ever met! I am delighted to be the next stop on the tour for Reign of Shadows 🙂

About the Book:

ReignofShadows

Seventeen years ago, an eclipse cloaked the kingdom of Relhok in perpetual darkness. In the chaos, an evil chancellor murdered the king and queen and seized their throne. Luna, Relhok’s lost princess, has been hiding in a tower ever since. Luna’s survival depends on the world believing she is dead.

But that doesn’t stop Luna from wanting more. When she meets Fowler, a mysterious archer braving the woods outside her tower, Luna is drawn to him despite the risk. When the tower is attacked, Luna and Fowler escape together. But this world of darkness is more treacherous than Luna ever realized.

With every threat stacked against them, Luna and Fowler find solace in each other. But with secrets still unspoken between them, falling in love might be their most dangerous journey yet.

With lush writing and a star–crossed romance, Reign of Shadows is Sophie Jordan at her best.

My Thoughts:

I snagged this book from Edelweiss the instant I saw it. I mean, it’s by Sophie Jordan so that makes it an auto-read. But also, upon reading the summary there were so many things that intrigued me! I was not disappointed. Here are a few of the aspects I really loved:

  • Isolation: Luna has lead a very Rapunzel-esque existence. She’s a princess locked in a tower and cut off from the world. She’s not entirely alone. The two people who saved her as a baby have loved, protected, and raised her. Still, she’s never met anyone else, never seen the world aside from her tower and the surrounding area. Meeting new people changed her world in more ways than expected!
  • Darkness: The kingdom has been dark for seventeen years! I’m not afraid of the dark but that would totally change if I lived like that! I was so interested in how the darkness affected the people, flora, and fauna. How would that much darkness change the world? In the case of Luna’s world there are terrible creatures that thrive in the darkest part of the perpetual night. This added to the tension and suspense of the story.
  • Twists: There were some serious twists and turns going on in Reign of Shadows. Sophie Jordan does an excellent job of laying the foundation for them. The reader can see that both Luna and Fowler have secrets from each other. We even know some of them. This give and take left me surprised by some of the events and I loved that!
  • Journey: Luna and Fowler are on journeys in more ways than one. I don’t want to give too much away here. I’ll just say that there is the obvious physical journey, but, there’s more than that. Both characters have survived in different ways. They don’t really understand the others way of life and they don’t trust easily. Being thrown together on the physical journey leads to much change in the ways they think. This was the journey that was most interesting to me.

I am looking forward to seeing where things go in book two… especially after the ending! Are you trying to kill me with suspense, Sophie?!?!? 🙂

About the Author:

Sophie JordanSophie Jordan took her adolescent daydreaming one step further and penned her first historical romance in the back of her high school Spanish class. This passion led her to pursue a degree in English and History.

A brief stint in law school taught her that case law was not nearly as interesting as literature – teaching English seemed the natural recourse. After several years teaching high school students to love Antigone, Sophie resigned with the birth of her first child and decided it was time to pursue the long-held dream of writing.

In less than three years, her first book, Once Upon A Wedding Night, a 2006 Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice Nominee for Best First Historical, hit book shelves. Her second novel, Too Wicked To Tame, released in March 2007 with a bang, landing on the USA Today Bestseller’s List.

What an awesome world, to have it cloaked in darkness and have that flora and fauna all adapt! and I love how both characters are strong in their own ways!
