Class is back in session...Sophronia continues her second year at finishing school in style--with a steel-bladed fan secreted in the folds of her ball gown, of course. Such a fashionable choice of weapon comes in handy when Sophronia, her best friend Dimity, sweet sootie Soap, and the charming Lord Felix Mersey stowaway on a train to return their classmate Sidheag to her werewolf pack in Scotland. No one suspected what--or who--they would find aboard that suspiciously empty train. Sophronia uncovers a plot that threatens to throw all of London into chaos and she must decide where her loyalties lie, once and for all. Gather your poison, steel tipped quill, and the rest of your school supplies and join Mademoiselle Geraldine's proper young killing machines in the third rousing installment in the New York Times bestselling Finishing School Series by steampunk author, Gail Carriger.

My Thoughts:

I never want this series to end!!! Unfortunately, this is the penultimate books so I only get one more. Fortunately, Waistcoats & Weaponry is just as amazing as the previous books! (My review of Etiquette & Espionage, Curtsies & Conspiracies)

Where do I even begin with my love? Steampunk! Female Intelligencers! Mechanimals! Sooties! Young ladies of quality! Werewolves! Secret Plots! Picklemen! If you’ve never read any of these books you might be a little lost but, trust me! These are all really fabulous things that contribute to an amazing plot!

In Waistcoats & Weaponry things are a bit different from the other two books. The majority of the book takes place away from Mademoiselle Geraldine’s. That in and of itself isn’t that different. However, the whole school isn’t along for the ride so we see a narrower cast of familiar characters. Noticeably absent are Agatha and Vieve. I’m curious to see what these two were up to while the rest of the crew were having their adventure! Of course I missed them but the book was still perfection. I don’t want to give too much detail with this one since it’s the third in the series. All the specific things I loved include spoilers for the first two books!

Overall, this is yet another fabulous adventure for Sophronia and company. Waistcoats & Weaponry is an excellent addition to the Finishing School series. I’ve loved seeing Sophronia’s character develop and simply cannot wait to see where she ends up in Manners & Mutiny! YOU REALLY NEED TO READ THESE BOOKS!!!!

Note: If you’re an audiobook fan I highly suggest listening to these! I did the first two books on audio and absolutely loved it! If I wasn’t so anxious for Waistcoats & Weaponry I would have waited and listened to the audio 🙂
