Most Popular Books in my Library

June 1, 2016 etc 2

As may of you know I am a middle school librarian IRL. It’s the time of year where I start running reports and looking at the statistics for the past year. One of my favorite things to see is the list of the most circulated items. I thought I’d share some of our top books with you! These lists aren’t necessarily in order. For example, when we have two copies of a book sometimes they are separate records. One might be checked out 10 times and the other 7. That would be 17 total checkouts but it shows up as two different books. I tried to catch as many of these as I could but I’m sure I missed some! Also, for books in a series I just put the first book 🙂 Also, this doesn’t factor in books students borrowed from their teachers or our book room (used for literature circles in class.)

Fiction:

  1. Legend by Marie Lu
  2. Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney
  3. Divergent by Veronica Roth
  4. If I Stay by Gayle Forman
  5. The Maze Runner by James Dashner
  6. Wonder by R.J. Palacio
  7. Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen
  8. The Selection by Kiera Cass
  9. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
  10. The Unwanteds by Lisa McMann

Nonfiction:

  1. A Child Called It by David Pelzer
  2. Heaven is for Real by Todd Burpo
  3. Hidden Girl by Shyima Hall
  4. Soul Surfer by Bethany Hamilton
  5. I am a SEAL Team Six Warrior by Howard Wasdin
  6. Out of the Blue by Victor Cruz
  7. Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand
  8. Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah
  9. I will Always Write Back by Caitlin Alifirenka & Martin Ganda
  10. I am Malala by Malala Yousafzai

Graphic Novels/Manga:

  1. Naruto by Masashi Kishimoto
  2. Smile by Raina Telgemeier
  3. Sisters by Raina Telgemeier
  4. Maximum Ride: The Manga by NaRae Lee
  5. Lumberjanes by Noelle Stevenson
  6. Fairy Tail by Hiro Mashima
  7. Drama by Raina Telgemeier
  8. One Piece by Eiichiro Oda
  9. Bleach by Tite Kubo
  10. Legend: the Graphic Novel by Leigh Dragoon

There weren’t really any surprises for me! These are the books I hear the students talking about most (although I did think The Lunar Chronicles would have been on there!) Legend by Marie Lu was our featured book this year so I was pleased to see so many students actually read it. I also love that Harry Potter is still on the list 🙂

It warms my heart that Harry Potter is still on the list! Like you most of those titles don’t surprise me. Btw, I love Bleach xD and yes you needed to know that.

    Great post, thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing this! It’s fun to see what kids are interested in reading, especially the non-fiction picks. And it’s great to know that there are kids still interested in reading harry potter even though the movies are out. I have definitely never had the drive to read a book after I’ve already seen the movie.
