Devon Tennyson wouldn't change a thing. She's happy watching Friday night games from the bleachers, silently crushing on best friend Cas, and blissfully ignoring the future after high school. But the universe has other plans. It delivers Devon's cousin Foster, an unrepentant social outlier with a surprising talent for football, and the obnoxiously superior and maddeningly attractive star running back, Ezra, right where she doesn't want them first into her P.E. class and then into every other aspect of her life.
Pride and Prejudice meets Friday Night Lights in this contemporary novel about falling in love with the unexpected boy, with a new brother, and with yourself.
My Thoughts:
As I said in my post for the First & Then blog tour, I was really excited for this book. I’d watched Emma’s youtube videos throughout the years and loved how funny and smart they are. I appreciated the same things about this book!
First & Then has been described as Friday Night Lights meets Pride and Prejudice. Now, I’ve never seen Friday Night Lights (don’t hurt me!) but I am a HUGE fan of Pride and Prejudice! Of course this had me a little worried but my favorite aspect was alive and well… the romantic tension! For some reason I just love seeing the animosity between two characters turn to affection! Devon and Ezra certainly had some ups and downs. I was interested in seeing how their relationship changed with each misunderstanding.
Foster really stole the show for me. I mean, I liked Devon, Ezra, and everyone but Foster, Foster! I just wanted to hug him! That poor, sweet boy has already been through so much. I was so hopeful for him and his adjustment to the changes in his life. Watching Devon warm to having him in her home made me feel all warm and fuzzy. I just loved the family aspect.
Basically this is just a fun book to read! I enjoyed the relationships, the football aspect, everything!!!

I just bought this and also got to meet Emma this past weekend! I’m looking forward to reading it at some point soon (I bought 11 books at the Anderson’s do-hickey!)
