Jenny Cavanaugh, the ghostly lady of 926 Augur Lane, has enlisted the investigative services of her fellow residents to solve a decade-old murder—her own. Abigail Rook and her eccentric employer, Detective R. F. Jackaby, dive into the cold case, starting with a search for Jenny’s fiancé, who went missing the night she died. But when a new, gruesome murder closely mirrors the events of ten years prior, Abigail and Jackaby realize that Jenny’s case isn’t so cold after all, and her killer may be far more dangerous than they suspected.

Fantasy and folklore mix with mad science as Abigail’s race to unravel the mystery leads her across the cold cobblestones of nineteenth-century New England, down to the mythical underworld, and deep into her colleagues’ grim histories to battle the most deadly foe she has ever faced.

Jackaby * Beastly Bones

My Thoughts:

I just love the Jackaby books! I cannot say enough good things about them. Ghostly Echoes was no exception. Everything I loved about Jackaby and Beastly Bones was present in spades. The quirky characters, clever dialogue, interesting folklore and creatures, mysterious happenings… it all creates such an enjoyable reading experience.

As I said at the end of my Beastly Bones review, I was really looking forward to seeing where Jenny’s story would go. I loved getting to know a bit more about her through books one and two. It was such a treat to really dive in to her story and her past with book three! Seeing how her life and the mystery of her death connected with some other events… so great. I can’t say much more about it without spoiling some of the mystery!

And Abigail. Oh, how I adore her as a narrator (and character in general.) Jackaby is such an interesting character but I just love, love, love that it’s Abigail we hear from. She is the perfect character to tell the story… smart yet new to her role and without Jackaby’s abilities as a seer. The reader gets enough information to be caught up in the story but not so much that you feel you know exactly what’s going to happen. Ritter strikes the perfect balance.

If you haven’t read these books yet I highly recommend them. So clever and so much fun!
