The queen has returned.

Everyone Celaena Sardothien loves has been taken from her. But she’s at last returned to the empire—for vengeance, to rescue her once-glorious kingdom, and to confront the shadows of her past…

She has embraced her identity as Aelin Galathynius, Queen of Terrasen. But before she can reclaim her throne, she must fight.

She will fight for her cousin, a warrior prepared to die for her. She will fight for her friend, a young man trapped in an unspeakable prison. And she will fight for her people, enslaved to a brutal king and awaiting their lost queen’s triumphant return.

The fourth volume in the New York Times bestselling series continues Celaena’s epic journey and builds to a passionate, agonizing crescendo that might just shatter her world.

My Thoughts:

I didn’t read Throne of Glass until almost a year after it was released and then I fell head over heels! I waited awhile to review Crown of Midnight  and Heir of Fire because I just couldn’t express my love adequately. I spread out my reading of the novellas in The Assassin’s Blade because I didn’t want them to end. Basically, I am just a total fangirl for this series.

I waited a few months to read Queen of Shadows and now I’ve waited a few more months to review it. It was one of those books that I was almost afraid to read because I was so excited for it. Of course, it did not disappoint. I’m not sure how Sarah J. Maas does it but these books just keep getting better and better!

I think what I love most about this series is the way the characters develop. There is so much change happening in all their lives. I appreciate that Maas doesn’t try to make me believe that the characters wouldn’t mature and change as well. They do. And sometimes they no longer “fit” in ways they did before. Things happen in Queen of Shadows that I would have hated in book one or two but totally understand at this point in the story. Don’t get me wrong, I had to make some adjustments to my thinking! But it was something I appreciated and it made me love this story even more!

I’m not going to go into specifics this far in to a series but there are a few things I want to note:

  • I’m pretty sure that when Sarah J. Maas sat down to write this book she was trying to see how much she could break our hearts in the first chapter!
  • Aelin is not messing around in this one! She is getting things done!
  • I love the phrase, “fire-breathing bitch-queen.”
  • Arobynn is such a creeper!!!
  • Manon forever. I so love this addition to the series.
  • Ugh!!!! I just love it all so much! I need more!!!

I have no idea how I’m going to make it until September for Empire of Storms! So much love and respect for this series.

Yes, yes, yes! I freaking LOVED Queen of Shadows, and think that watching these characters grow and change and be shaped by their circumstances is so cool. Can’t wait for Empire of Storms!

Arobynn is the biggest creeper! Ugh! I love Manon too and love seeing the characters change! She is so good at plotting this vast world, I loooved Queen of Shadows! Can’t wait to see where it all goes next. I’m hoping we get to see Ansel again, I loved her in the Desert novella.
