The galaxy is at war.

Although the Rebel Alliance has won a few battles against the Empire, hope is fading. The Empire is about to unveil the greatest weapon the galaxy has ever seen--the Death Star. The Rebels' only chance to defeat it now lies in the unlikely hands of a princess, a scoundrel, and a farm boy....

My Thoughts:

I have been a fan of Star Wars ever since my cousin Matt introduced it to me as a kid. To this day Star Wars: A New Hope is my go to movie when I’m not feeling my best. Still, I haven’t read many Star Wars books (I did read the first few Young Jedi Knights books when I was in middle school!) With the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens my desire to read Star Wars related books increased… especially since they were being written by authors I am familiar with! A New Hope: The Princess, The Scoundrel, and The Farm Boy seemed the place to start.

When I first heard that there were going to be middle grade adaptions of Episodes IV, V, and, VI I had mixed feelings. I was excited because I thought it was a great way to introduce the story to a younger audience. However, I was a little leery. I love those movies so hard! Would I like an adaptation? My fears were put to rest when I saw the authors who would be writing them. Alexandra Bracken, Adam Gidwitz, and Tom Angleberger? Those are authors I trust!

So far I’ve only read  A New Hope: The Princess, The Scoundrel, and The Farm Boy but I knew I was right to trust Alexandra Bracken! Her retelling of one of my favorite movies was everything I hoped it’d be. Of course she covered the main events, but it’s more than that. The book is divided into three sections following Leia, Han, and Luke. In the movie we meet Leia, then Luke, and then Han. At first I was surprised that it was switched in the book but it totally worked! I really liked how this gave the reader insight to each of these beloved characters.

Whether you’re a fan of Star Wars or new to the galaxy, this book is a fun adaptation that shouldn’t be missed.

So glad, and I’ll be honest a little relived, that you liked this! I, being a HUGE Star Wars fan, own all three books but have yet to read ONE! I’m working my way through the Journey to the Force Awakens series right now. I had never read anything by Alex Bracken and this will certainly be the first. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
