All Etta Spencer wanted was to make her violin debut when she was thrust into a treacherous world where the struggle for power could alter history. After losing the one thing that would have allowed her to protect the Timeline, and the one person worth fighting for, Etta awakens alone in an unknown place and time, exposed to the threat of the two groups who would rather see her dead than succeed. When help arrives, it comes from the last person Etta ever expected—Julian Ironwood, the Grand Master’s heir who has long been presumed dead, and whose dangerous alliance with a man from Etta’s past could put them both at risk.
Meanwhile, Nicholas and Sophia are racing through time in order to locate Etta and the missing astrolabe with Ironwood travelers hot on their trail. They cross paths with a mercenary-for-hire, a cheeky girl named Li Min who quickly develops a flirtation with Sophia. But as the three of them attempt to evade their pursuers, Nicholas soon realizes that one of his companions may have ulterior motives.
As Etta and Nicholas fight to make their way back to one another, from Imperial Russia to the Vatican catacombs, time is rapidly shifting and changing into something unrecognizable… and might just run out on both of them.
My Thoughts:
Passenger was my first read of 2016 and I loved it. I knew that having Wayfarer as my first read of 2017 would be a good choice. I think I loved it even more than Passenger!
****Passenger spoilers from here on out****
(Since it had been awhile since I read Passenger I found this graphic recap of Passenger Bracken shared on her blog really helpful. I recommend checking it out before reading Wayfarer!)
So, Wayfarer. It picks up shortly after Passenger ends. Etta and Nick are separated through time when Etta is orphaned by the timeline. They spend pretty much all of the book apart. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this. I actually really liked it. We got to see their interactions with other characters more and it really brought a different side to the story. Plus, I was impressed with how Bracken used this to change my perceptions of some of the characters! And I really, really liked meeting a couple new ones as well!
There is so much history about the Travelers and Etta’s family that comes to light in Wayfarer. I loved it. Also, I was totally surprised by a couple of the twists and things that were revealed. The way things came together really worked for me.
Basically I just really enjoyed this story. It kept me interested and reading until the last page.

So glad you loved this book even more than the first–it’s so great when that happens in a series 😀 I still need to read these books 🙂 Lovely review!
