Wilhelmina has a hundred identities.

She is a princess. When the Indigo Kingdom conquered her homeland, Wilhelmina and other orphaned children of nobility were taken to Skyvale, the Indigo Kingdom’s capital. Ten years later, they are the Ospreys, experts at stealth and theft. With them, Wilhelmina means to take back her throne.

She is a spy. Wil and her best friend, Melanie, infiltrate Skyvale Palace to study their foes. They assume the identities of nobles from a wraith-fallen kingdom, but enemies fill the palace, and Melanie’s behavior grows suspicious. With Osprey missions becoming increasingly dangerous and their leader more unstable, Wil can’t trust anyone.

She is a threat. Wraith is the toxic by-product of magic, and for a century using magic has been forbidden. Still the wraith pours across the continent, reshaping the land and animals into fresh horrors. Soon it will reach the Indigo Kingdom. Wilhelmina’s magic might be the key to stopping the wraith, but if the vigilante Black Knife discovers Wil’s magic, she will vanish like all the others.

Jodi Meadows introduces a vivid new fantasy full of intrigue, romance, dangerous magic, and one girl’s battle to reclaim her place in the world.

My Thoughts:

This has been such a great year for reading fantasy! I’ve finished some series that I’ve loved and found a few new ones that have me eagerly awaiting book two. The Orphan Queen by Jodi Meadows is one of the latter!

I downloaded a sneak peak of this book. I didn’t realize just how invested I was until I got to the end of the sneak peak and kept trying to “turn” the page. I was swiping and swiping and swiping at my e-reader. I didn’t want to believe I was at the end and had to wait for my finished copy to arrive! Once it did I devoured it!

There is so much to love! Wilhelmina is fierce. She’s a princess without a kingdom, fighting for people she hasn’t seen in years. There’s spying and secrets and adventure and romance. All of the awesome things!! I loved that we got to see the characters in many different situations. They are often playing roles and the reader gets to untangle the lies and half truths. Man, I loved that! It kept me engaged and turning the pages.

The Orphan Queen is a strong addition to the fantasy stories I love. I cannot wait to see where Jodi Meadow takes us next.

I have this book now from the library. Fantasy is tough for me to read, so I’ve been slow going. I keep hearing how good this book is, so I’m determined to stick with it!
