Blog Tour: After the End – Review & Giveaway

April 15, 2014 Blog Tour, Book Review, Giveaway 38

I’m so thrilled to be kicking off the blog tour for Amy Plum’s AFTER THE END. Her book Die for Me was one of the very first books I requested from NetGalley back when I was a brand new blogger! I’ve been a fan ever since. I’m starting things off with a review.

Find out more about the book

World War III has left the world ravaged by nuclear radiation. A lucky few escaped to the Alaskan wilderness.

They′e survived for the last thirty years by living off the land, being one with nature, and hiding from whoever else might still be out there.

At least, this is what Juneau has been told her entire life.

When Juneau returns from a hunting trip to discover that everyone in her clan has vanished, she sets off to find them. Leaving the boundaries of their land for the very first time, she learns something horrifying: There never was a war. Cities were never destroyed. The world is intact.

Everything was a lie.

Now Juneau is adrift in a modern-day world she never knew existed. But while she′s trying to find a way to rescue her friends and family, someone else is looking for her. Someone who knows the extraordinary truth about the secrets of her past.

My Thoughts:

I’m always a little nervous about signing up for blog tours that involve a new series from an author I love. What if I don’t like it as much as I loved the previous books? I need not have worried in the case of After the End by Amy Plum. This new series is very different from her Revenants books but equally awesome. I mean, a post-apocalyptic book that actually isn’t? What?!?! So cool.

In After the End we get to see the story from both main characters’ perspectives. If you know me, you know I love this! What I found particularly interesting about it in this case was how vastly different the two characters’ lives are. It’s not just a difference of rich/poor or male/female… Juneau was raised to believe she was living in a post-apocalyptic world. The only people she has ever seen are those in her clan. They hunt their food and make their clothes and live nearly 100% off the land. Miles is basically your bratty rich kid… getting in trouble just for the rush. While Juneau has the future of her clan on her shoulders, Miles is complaining about working in the mail room of his dad’s business. Such dissimilar backgrounds! It was so interesting to see the ways they interacted and affected one another.

Juneau and Miles seem so very opposite on the surface. As the story progresses they learn how alike they are. Both are at a turning point in their life. They have many hard truths to learn. They’re also tied together in a way neither fully understands. All of these factors worked together to create a story that kept my interest as it developed. This was one of those books that I read on my kindle and didn’t pay attention to how far along I was. When it ended I kept trying to advance the page! I was so not ready for it to be over! And what an ending! Talk about a cliffhanger!!! Oy!

Basically you need to give this book a read!  And as a bonus, there is a pre-order giveaway for the first 300 pre-orders! Check it out:

The first 300 people who pre-order AFTER THE END and show proof of their pre-order will receive one of these limited edition After The End water bottles. *see below*

Authors like Beth Revis, Kimberly Derting, Josephine Angelini & more will be on the tour. As Amy mentioned in her recent newsletter, the truth-or-dare theme is particularly relevant to AFTER THE END, since Juneau’s oracle has said she has to tell the truth or she won’t find her clan.

I don’t mean to brag…but I’ve been lucky enough to have read an ARC of AFTER THE END. If you loved Amy’s Revanents trilogy, you’ll love this book (though they have nothing in common, just so ya know 😉 ) Amy’s writing only gets better and better and AFTER THE END is so superbly wonderful and exciting, I couldn’t wait to see how it ended…and let me tell you…it’s a thrilling book, beginning to end!
