About the Book:
“Turn on—all—the lights before reading this hair-raiser full of serious Scream vibes.” —Seventeen
It’s been almost a year since Makani Young came to live with her grandmother in landlocked Nebraska, and she’s still adjusting to her new life. And still haunted by her past in Hawaii. Then, one by one, the students of her small town high school begin to die in a series of gruesome murders, each with increasing and grotesque flair. As the terror grows closer and the hunt intensifies for the killer, Makani will be forced to confront her own dark secrets.
Stephanie Perkins, bestselling author of Anna and the French Kiss, returns with a fresh take on the classic teen slasher story that’s fun, quick-witted, and completely impossible to put down.

My Thoughts:
*** Before I get started I feel that I should note I consider Steph to be a close friend. I was a fan of her books before we met and I don’t think our friendship heavily influences my review. I would just not post one at all if I didn’t like the book. Still, I want to be transparent about it! I think Steph’s the best 🙂 ***
Okay. If you follow me here or on twitter/instagram you probably know I am a HUGE baby when it comes to scary books. I very rarely read horror novels. Pretty much the only time I do is when they’re written by an author I have already read and loved. Steph is one of the few authors I’m willing to be terrified for!
Before starting There’s Someone Inside Your House I expected to read a jump-out-at-you scary book. I expected it to be fun and engaging and a little terrifying. Even though I knew how skilled Steph is at crafting characters and relationships, I didn’t expect to find depth and development of both in a slasher type story. But I did. Oh did I ever! There’s Someone Inside Your House is the most disturbingly wonderful blend of romance and slasher that I have ever read. I’m not sure how she did it, but Steph had me swooning from both the feels and the gore. Not only that, I actually enjoyed both.
I loved the setting for There’s Someone Inside Your House. I’m a Midwest girl, born and bred. Wisconsin and Nebraska are totally different places, but that Midwest feel is the same. Steph perfectly captures it in this book. As I was reading I could totally picture the town I live in or the town I teach in as the setting. I think this made it even more terrifying! I found myself checking behind the shower curtain to make sure no one was there and triple checking that all doors were locked when I finish the book.
There’s Someone Inside Your House really surprised me in more ways than one. I was caught up in the horror aspect, as well as the characters’ lives in general. They just seem to jump off the page… and out from behind your door!
