My Thoughts:

I am so in love with Megan Whalen Turner’s The Queen’s Thief novels. Turns out I’ve never reviewed them on my blog. That’s only because I read them before really blogging. They are some of my all time favorite fantasy stories. I am not alone. Just look at what other YA authors have to say about them:

“The Queen’s Thief books awe and inspire me. They have the feel of a secret, discovered history of real but forgotten lands. The plot-craft is peerless, the revelations stunning, and the characters flawed, cunning, heartbreaking, exceptional. Megan Whalen Turner’s books have a permanent spot on my favorites shelf, with space waiting for more books to come.”—Laini Taylor, New York Times-bestselling author of the Daughter of Smoke and Bone novels and Strange the Dreamer

“Unforgettable characters, plot twists that will make your head spin, a world rendered in elegant detail—you will fall in love with every page of these stories. Megan Whalen Turner writes vivid, immersive, heartbreaking fantasy that will leave you desperate to return to Attolia again and again.”—Leigh Bardugo, #1 New York Times-bestselling author of Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom

“Megan Whalen Turner has constructed a clever world filled with suspense and intrigue and characters that will never be forgotten. Once you dive into the world of the Queen’s Thief, prepare to have your life stolen from you until you finish them all.” —Joelle Charbonneau, New York Times-bestselling author of the Testing trilogy

I agree wholeheartedly with everything Laini, Leigh, and Joelle said! Obviously I was thrilled when I got a copy of the newest book, Thick as Thieves. If you’ve never read anything by Megan Whalen Turner this book can be read as a stand alone. However, previous characters are mentioned and I think you’ll love it even more if you start with The Thief and work your way through. If you’re an audiobook fan, all books in the series are being released on audio and they’re read by my favorite narrator, Steve West!!!

Ok, now on to the actual book…

Thick as Thieves by Megan Whalen Turner was everything I hoped it’d be. And that’s saying a lot since it’s a book I’ve been waiting seven years for! That’s plenty of time to build up expectations. Thankfully, this book exhibits the same skill and style as Turner’s previous books.

I absolutely adored getting back into the world of The Queen’s Thief. It’s one of my favorite fantasy worlds and I’m thrilled every time I get to learn more about it. I also loved that we get to see minor characters we’ve met before in a main role and main characters from previous books as side characters. This allows readers to see the world and characters from all different perspectives and it makes the story seem that much more real.

Kamet’s story was compelling. He changes so much as a character and I was cheering for him the whole way. I loved every step he took to gaining agency and making choices that were best for himself… not based on what he had been trained to believe. I also loved the friendship aspect. As Kamet and the Attolian Guard begin to know one another they really develop a bond. Ugh. So great.

I am such a fangirl for all of The Queen’s Thief novels. Thick as Thieves is no exception! I highly recommend checking this smart and engaging series out.
