Book two of the dazzling Winner's Trilogy is a fight to the death as Kestrel risks betrayal of country for love.

The engagement of Lady Kestrel to Valoria’s crown prince means one celebration after another. But to Kestrel it means living in a cage of her own making. As the wedding approaches, she aches to tell Arin the truth about her engagement…if she could only trust him. Yet can she even trust herself? For—unknown to Arin—Kestrel is becoming a skilled practitioner of deceit: an anonymous spy passing information to Herran, and close to uncovering a shocking secret.

As Arin enlists dangerous allies in the struggle to keep his country’s freedom, he can’t fight the suspicion that Kestrel knows more than she shows. In the end, it might not be a dagger in the dark that cuts him open, but the truth. And when that happens, Kestrel and Arin learn just how much their crimes will cost them.

My Thoughts:

Love, love, love, love, love!! I am such a huge fan of this series. Book one, The Winner’s Curse was one of my very favorites of last year. My review is all sorts of fangirl-y!! I feel the same way about The Winner’s Crime. It’s another favorite of last year!

Upon finishing it all I had two main thoughts:

  1. That was fantastic!
  2. Ahhhhhh! When can I read The Winner’s Kiss?!?!?!

With out being too spoilery, here are a few main thoughts:

The Winner’s Crime builds on the momentum of The Winner’s Curse perfectly. I was a bit leery since Kestrel and Arin spend much of the book apart. Would there still be the tension? The romance? I need not have worried!!! This book had a stranglehold on my emotions! I was invested in every little thing that happened.  Kestrel is such an amazing character and I loved to get to know her more. I felt like I got more insight to Arin in this story, which I loved. And the world building!! So much is going on and the reader gets a much broader picture.

Seriously. This series is one of my all time favorites. I recommend it to basically everybody who comes into the library looking for books. Marie Rutkoski is simply brilliant.
