This week the Summer of Sarah Dessen focus is on Just Listen. How are we half way through already?!?!
This is perhaps my favorite Sarah Dessen novel! It’s one of the very first I read and it just really stuck with me. I reviewed it back in 2011 so today I’m giving you my top 5 reasons you should read it:
- Annabel: This girl just got to me. Every time I read Just Listen (it’s one of my go to re-reads!) I’m so impressed with her. She starts the book off feeling a bit broken but gains so much strength. Her journey is really incredible and it’s the main reason I read this book over and over.
- Owen: My favorite Dessen boy 🙂 I just really, really like how she writes him. I love her descriptions of him and his quirks. I especially love his music obsession.
- Anger Management: Speaking of Owen and his music… Anger Management is his community radio show and I love every scene related to it! “Hearing” Owen talk about music is the best. It reminds me of me talking about YA books and authors!
- Connections: This is the first book where I really remember seeing connections between Sarah’s books. When Wes and Macy make an appearance I about died! My posts about the connections in Sarah’s books are the most popular posts on my blog 🙂
- Mallory: There are many other things I love about this book but Owen’s sister Mallory really stuck with me. She just cracks me up! I think it’s because I work with middle schoolers. Mallory and her friends just reminded of why I love working with middle school girls!
There are many, many other things I love about this book. I highly, highly suggest you pick it up!!
