Welcome to the next stop on the blog tour for Proof of Forever by Lexa Hillyer! Today I have Lexa’s “Top Ten Fictional Friendships Through the Years” as well as my review and a giveaway. Enjoy!!

My (Lexa’s) Top Ten Fictional Friendships Through the Years

1. Toddler: Tod and Copper from “The Fox and the Hound” (Friendship across the divide! Sob!)
“If you give me a head start, I can beat you.”

2. Pre-School: Puff the Magic Dragon and Little Jackie Paper (I used to cry when my dad would play this song to me on his guitar before bed. I wanted Jackie and Puff to stay friends always.)
“Dragons live forever. Not so little boys.”

3. First Grade: Frog and Toad, from Frog and Toad Are Friends by Arnold Lobel (The first full book I ever learned to read!)
“Dear Toad, I am glad that you are my best friend. Your best friend, Frog.”

4. Second Grade: Charlotte and Wilbur from Charlotte’s Web
“It is not often that someone comes along who is a true friend and a good writer.”

5. Fifth Grade: Jesse and Leslie from Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson (Heartbreaking.)
“It was up to him to pay back to the world in beauty and caring what Leslie had loaned him in vision and strength. ”

6. Eighth Grade: Huck and Jim from Huck Finn:
“We had the sky up there, all speckled with stars, and we used to lay on our backs and look up at them, and discuss whether they was made or only just happened. Jim he allowed they was made, but I allowed they happened; I judged it would have took too long to MAKE so many.”

7. Ninth Grade: Angela and Rayanne in “My So-Called Life”
Rayanne: Just pop it already and get on with your life.
Angela: But won’t that cause a scar?
Rayanne: What are you talking about? Everything causes a scar – LIVING causes a scar.

8. Junior Year: Serena and Blair from Gossip Girl
Blair: “Whoever said money doesn’t buy happiness didn’t know where to shop.”

9. Senior Year: Lizzie and Jane Bennet from Pride & Prejudice
“Compliments always take you by surprise, and me never.” (Lizzie to Jane)

10. 20’s: All the friends in “Friends”
Ross: It would be so cool to live across from you guys.
Joey: Hey, yeah. Then we could do that telephone thing. Y’know, you have a can, we have a can and it’s connected by a string.
Chandler: Or we can do the *actual * telephone thing.

About the Book:

18520642Before: It was the perfect summer of first kisses, skinny-dipping, and bonfires by the lake. Joy, Tali, Luce, and Zoe knew their final summer at Camp Okahatchee would come to an end, but they swore they’d stay friends.

After: Now, two years later, their bond has faded along with those memories.

Then: That is, until the fateful flash of a photo booth camera transports the four of them back in time, to the summer they were fifteen—the summer everything changed.

Now: The girls must recreate the past in order to return to the present. As they live through their second-chance summer, the mystery behind their lost friendship unravels, and a dark secret threatens to tear the girls apart all over again.

Always: Summers end. But this one will change them forever.

My Thoughts:

What a great summer read! I mean, there are so many elements I love… summer camp, friendships, second chances, romance, self discovery, a bit of mystery and more! I can totally see sitting out in the sun enjoying this one.

I was really captivated by the idea that the four main characters got sent back to re-live the final days of their final summer at camp. I have always said that there is no way I want to go back and re-live high school! However, the idea of going back to a pivotal point with the knowledge that I have now? Yeah, that’s actually kind of appealing! (Just for a couple days though!!!!)

Proof of Forever is told in three parts. It’s also told from each of the girls perspectives. We get meet them each individually first, in the present day. As they cross paths again for the first time in years we see how their perceptions of themselves differ from how the others see them. The second (an longest) part of the book is when the girls are thrown back in time. Again, we get the story from each girls perspective. I love that they have their memories of that summer while living it again. It gives the reader way more insight! The final part of the book is the aftermath… I don’t want to giveaway what happens here! I found this structure a really effective way to tell this particular story. It helps the reader to know each girl better and to piece together what really happened.

Check out Proof of Forever for a fun and unique summer read!
