Fans of Sarah Dessen and Huntley Fitzpatrick will enjoy this smart debut young adult novel, equal parts My Life Next Door and The Princess Diaries—plus a dash of Aaron Sorkin.

Kate Quinn’s mom died last year, leaving Kate parentless and reeling. So when the unexpected shows up in her living room, Kate must confront another reality she never thought possible—or thought of at all. Kate does have a father. He’s a powerful politician. And he’s running for U.S. President. Suddenly, Kate’s moving in with a family she never knew she had, joining a campaign in support of a man she hardly knows, and falling for a rebellious boy who may not have the purest motives. This is Kate’s new life. But who is Kate? When what she truly believes flies in the face of the campaign’s talking points, she must decide. Does she turn to the family she barely knows, the boy she knows but doesn’t necessarily trust, or face a third, even scarier option?

Set against a backdrop of politics, family, and first love, this is a story of personal responsibility, complicated romance, and trying to discover who you are even as everyone tells you who you should be.

My Thoughts:

This book came out of nowhere for me. I hadn’t heard anything about it before getting an email about being on the blog tour. It sounded interesting so I decided to give it a chance. I am so glad I did!

I have to admit, I almost didn’t read this one. I really wasn’t sure about the political aspect. Turns out that’s part of what I loved best!! Actually, I just loved everything about it!! The political aspect, the family stuff, the romance… it all just worked for me!

Kate was a character I instantly connected with. Her life was in such a state of flux! I became more and more invested in her story with every change that occurred. I didn’t realize just how much I cared about the story until I found myself tearing up… repeatedly! For most of the book I just wanted to hug her.

The Wrong Side of Right does an excellent job of showing that there are multiple sides to an issue. As a reader, it had me thinking about what I believe and how I live out my beliefs. I think this book will help teen readers (and readers of all ages!) see things from multiple points of view without being preachy. I really appreciated this.

Basically, if you haven’t added The Wrong Side of Right to your TBR pile you should! An excellent contemporary novel. I loved it!!!

I’m so excited for this one! (Whenever I manage to get to it. Sigh.) It sounds like everyone really loves the political aspect of it, so it must be well written! It’s so great that you felt so connected to Kate. Hopefully she makes me tear up a little bit too.
