STARTING OVER SUCKS
When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.
AND THEN HE OPENED HIS MOUTH
Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.
THE HOT ALIEN LIVING NEXT DOOR MARKS ME
You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.
IF I DON’T KILL HIM FIRST, THAT IS
My Thoughts:
Honestly, I wasn’t too sure about this one. I mean, aliens? Not really my thing. But then I read Jennifer Armentrout’s NA books and loved the way she tells a story. I needed a “fix” of her writing and I happened to have the e-book of Obsidian. Once I started, I couldn’t put it down!! It was so not what I was expecting (in an excellent way!)
First of all, Armentrout does such a great job with the pacing of her stories. I don’t notice any lag time (or areas where I just skim to get to something interesting!) I love the way she uses both humor and tension to keep a story going. And the romantic tension! Off the charts!!! She gives the reader just the right amount to keep them going. I love it! This is why I can re-read her books over and over and not get bored (I admit, I’ve already read this one twice! I just never got around to reviewing it the first go round.)
And then there are her characters. In real life the arrogant, snarky guys drive me crazy… in books I love them! And man, does Armentrout know how to write them! I also love that her female characters don’t put up with it. This makes for really fabulous character interactions. That is certainly true in Obsidian. Any scene with Daemon and Katy is going to be great!
As far as the story itself goes, I was hooked. As I said, I wasn’t so sure about the alien thing. I guess I was afraid that aspect would pull me out of the story? (Since it’s not one I typically read.) Stars, was I wrong. At first, Katy doesn’t know exactly what is different about Daemon and his family. Watching her unravel the mystery? Pretty great. And of course, with beings not from our world, there is action!
Basically I almost missed a book that I super enjoyed because I wasn’t sure I wanted to try something new. How lame would that have been?!? Here’s to stepping out of your reading comfort zone.

Okay, now I have a major craving to re-read this too. JLA so rocks the sexual tension and chemistry departments. And you’re so right about the pacing. Once you start it’s nearly impossible to put the book down.
