Welcome to the blog tour for the 40th anniversary of Tuck Everlasting! Before we get into this post, I have a confession: I didn’t read this book until the movie was coming out! I wanted to see it so I read the book first (as any good book nerd would!) I was about 20 at the time but I still fell for the story. Here’s more about the gorgeous anniversary edition:

Tuck Everlasting 40th Anniv_Cover ImageBlessed with—or doomed to—eternal life after drinking from a magic spring, the Tuck family wanders about trying to live as inconspicuously and comfortably as they can. When ten-year-old Winnie Foster stumbles on their secret, the Tucks take her home and explain why living forever at one age is less of a blessing than it might seem. Complications arise when Winnie is followed by a stranger who wants to market the spring water for a fortune.

A brand-new introduction from Gregory Maguire, the author of Wicked, and additional bonus materials make this special edition of Natalie Babbitt’s Tuck Everlasting a must-have for lovers of the book and a great way to introduce a new generation to a classic.

You can find out more and/or purchase the 40th anniversary edition here.

For this tour each blogger was asked to answer the following question:

What if you could live forever?

Oh man. Even when reading Tuck Everlasting for the first time I knew that living forever was NOT for me! There were the obvious things like watching everyone you know grow old and die and seeing all the places that are familiar change. But even the good things I thought of for why I might do it had a down side.

You could read so many books!!! But, there would always be more books being published so you’d still always have a huge TBR pile.

Think of all the topics you could learn more about! Again, there would always be more!

There would be so much time to travel! Except how would you have a passport? Or a credit card? You’d have to change ID’s and they would need to be forged and that’s just shady. And holding a job? Yikes!

I think the hardest part (after losing everyone you know and love!) would be making the choice of isolating yourself as much as possible or trying to move around and assimilate for as long as you can and then having to sever all relationships. Ugh. NO THANK YOU!

I agree! I agree! I agree! You always think you want to live that long, but then…nope! That movie is beautiful and the book is such a classic. I can’t wait until my Mallory picks it up.

I agree all the way! There are some benefits. The books, but there are so many downsides also. I still have never read the book and I just saw the movie last year. I hadn’t heard anything about it until a fifth grader I know was obsessed with this movie. I’m always up for a book that makes children excited about reading.
