Top Ten New to Me Authors I read in 2014
I’ve read a number of new-to-me authors this year but not as many as I’d like! I need to get better at this for next year!! However, the ones that I did read were excellent. Here are my top ten in no particular order:
1. Stacey Jay: I read Princess of Thorns and it. was. awesome. I loved it so very much! I cannot wait to read more from her!!
2. Andrew Smith: Yeah. Grasshopper Jungle was my intro to his work and it certainly has me wanting to read more! Winger is high on my TBR!
3. Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner: I’m cheating and putting these two together since These Broken Stars was co-authored and it’s all I’ve read from either author. It really took me by surprise and totally blew me away! So excited for This Shattered World!
4. A.C. Gaughan: Her upcoming Lion Heart is one of my most anticipated releases of 2015! I have to know how Scarlet and Lady Thief wind up!!!!!! Love her storytelling style!
5. Jennifer E. Smith: I binge read her three most recent books one week and it was perfection. Great contemporary!
6. Sharon Biggs Waller: A Mad, Wicked Folly was one of my favorite books of the year. I adore historical fiction and this one was presented so well. Can’t wait to see where the author takes us next!
7. Marcus Sedgwick: I had the incredible privilege of attending an event and interviewing Mr. Sedgwick earlier this year. I read a number of his works to prepare. Each was so different from the previous one but all were excellent. He sure packs a lot in to a shorter book!
8. Garth Nix: How had I not read anything by him before?!?!? Sabriel is my kind of story!!
9. Emery Lord: Love, love, loved Open Road Summer. Another contemporary author I cannot wait to read more from.
10. Natalie C. Parker: Beware the Wild had such a delightful storytelling style. So atmospheric.
Bonus: Jim DiBartolo: I adored In the Shadows by Kiersten White and Jim Di Bartolo. Although I had read books from Kiersten before, Jim’s storytelling style was new to me. I was captivated by the art he created to tell his story. I want more books like this!!

Fantastic list! Emory Lord made my list as well and she is a new-to-me favorite…really looking forward to reading her next book!

We totally have some authors in common. Andrew Smith, although for me it was Winger. You must read that one, Heidi, it’s AMAZING! And Meagan Spooner and Amie Kaufman, too.
I still have read A.C.Gaughan, but I really really want to. I love Robin Hood stories.

I LOOOOVE Andrew Smith. I sometimes feel like he writes books just for me because I love the weird and zany. My favorites are Grasshopper Jungle and The Marbury Lens. I enjoyed Winger too. He just writes across the spectrum! These Broken Stars–Megan Spooner and Ami Kaufman are amazing too. Great great list!!!

I’ve got a Marcus Sedgwick book on my want-to-read list. Other than that, the only one I’m familiar with is Garth Nix. I loved Sabriel, too!
