About the Book: Once there were three. Three friends who loved each other—Jenna, Locke, and Kara. And after a terrible accident destroyed their bodies, their three minds were kept alive, spinning in a digital netherworld. Even in that disembodied nightmare, they were still together. At least at first. When Jenna disappeared, Locke and Kara had to go on without her. Decades passed, and then centuries.

Two-hundred-and-sixty years later, they have been released at last. Given new, perfect bodies, Locke and Kara awaken to a world they know nothing about, where everyone they once knew and loved is long dead.
Everyone except Jenna Fox.

My Thoughts: I don’t know if I can express how pleased I was to hear that there was going to be a companion to The Adoration of Jenna Fox. It is one of my all time favorite books and one of the first books I reviewed. (You can see my review here) To be able to read more about Kara and Locke was a treat I didn’t expect to get. And more Jenna? Yes, please!

This book takes place 260 years after the events in The Adoration of Jenna Fox. Kara’s and Locke’s minds have been stuck in the darkness all this time. Can you imagine? No touch, no sight, no learning new things… just 16 to 17 years of memories to relive and ONE other person to talk to. Add to that a healthy dose of guilt and confusion about everything that happened leading up to the accident AND not knowing if this darkness will ever end. This has to change a person. But how? I loved the way this novel explored this.

There were so many interesting questions and topics that The Fox Inheritance made me think about. That is one of my favorite things about it… it makes you think! The reader gets to see things through Locke’s perspective. (I just adore him!) He is seeing the world and everything in it for the first time in 260 years. He is also really figuring out who he is. He may technically have existed for over 250 years but he’s only really lived for 16 of those years. I loved seeing things through his eyes.

There were so many things in the story that weren’t what I expected… they were better. Mary Pearson has given us another smart and compelling read. I highly recommend checking out The Adoration of Jenna Fox and The Fox Inheritance. They both make great book club choices. There is so much to discuss!
