My goodreads Most Read Authors

February 10, 2011 etc 1

On Tuesday Kristi at The Story Siren posted this post about how goodreads has this new feature that shows you the authors that you’ve read the most from. I thought this was totally fun and decided to check it out. Below are some of my top results. I didn’t include manga authors/artists. I did more than my top ten because a number were adult authors and I wanted to be sure to get a lot of YA in there πŸ™‚

1. Meg Cabot 40 Books I think it’s clear that I love Meg Cabot! I’ve read most of her YA and adult books. I’ve got a few more to go but I’ll get there!

2. Janet Evanovich 32 Books So, far as long as I can remember my mother has HATED to read. I can’t recall her ever reading for pleasure throughout my childhood. This changed when I was in college. She called me on the phone one day to tell me she had read a whole book and liked it! (It was Seabiscuit.) My aunt loaned her the first couple books in the Stephanie Plum series and that really set her off reading. When she told me I went to my local library website and requested every book they had by Janet Evanovich. Apparently they had about 30 πŸ™‚ (NOT YA)

3. Tamora Pierce 29 Books This doesn’t surprise me. If she had more books I would have read them. I LOVE her writing. I didn’t discover Alanna until I started my job in a middle school LMC (4 years ago!) Since reading Alanna I’ve read everything Pierce has written that I can get my hands on.

4. Janette Oke 22 Books I went through a phase in high school where I read all of her books I could find. I haven’t read anything by her since. (Christian fiction, historical)

5. Hannah Howell & Sherrilyn Kenyon 20 Books each Lately I’ve been addicted to  historical and paranormal romance novels. I never really read romance novels at all until this last year. Now I read them all the time. Guilty pleasures πŸ™‚ (NOT YA)

6. P.C. Cast & Holly Black 14 Books each Most of the books I’ve read by P.C. Cast are from the house of night series. I’ve also read a number of her paranormal romance books (NOT YA) If you’ve checked my blog out before you’re probably not surprised to see Holly Black on the list. LOVE her books!!! I’m super excited for the next book in the Curse Workers series to be released!!

7. Cecily von Ziegesar 13 Books I went on a Gossip Girls spree. What can I say?

8. Gail Carson Levine, Georgette Heyer & L.M. Montgomery 12 Books each I did a project on fairy tales retold for middle grade when I was in college. Gail Carson Levine has written so many! I ended up reading almost everything she has written (Ella Enchanted, Fairest, The Two Princesses of Bammare.
I randomly picked up a book at the bookstore by Georgette Heyer. I LOVED it. She wrote regency romance a la Jane Austen. Arabella is my favorite πŸ™‚
L.M. Montgomery is one of my all time favorites. I love Anne of Green Gables and Emily of New Moon so much!

9. Sherwood Smith & Charlaine Harris 11 Books each The Sookie Stackhouse books are a guilty pleasure (NOT YA.)
Sherwood Smith is one of my favorite fantasy authors. Some books are YA and others (like the Inda books are not!) Her books aren’t exactly widely distributed.

10. Chris Crutcher, Ellen Schreiber, Zoey Dean & Francesca Lia Block 10 Books  each I spent one summer reading every Chris Crutcher book my local library had. LOVE his books.
My students enjoy Ellen Schreiber’s Vampire Kisses series. I read a number of them but don’t know that I’ll read more. I like to keep up with what my students like but I think I have a good handle on her books πŸ™‚
When I was on my Gossip Girl kick I also went on an A-List kick!
Don’t shoot me but I’m not a huge fan of Francesca Lia Block. I read a number of her books for a class project. I didn’t dislike them but I didn’t love them.

11. Scott Westerfeld, Robin McKinley, C.S. Lewis, & Sarah Dessen 9 Books I love all four of these authors! They are very different but fabulous in their own ways!!

I think I’ll stop there. I was going to go on but this is getting really long! This is a really fun and interesting feature. I don’t think it’s a reflection of favored authors. I’d be interested in seeing a list calculated that looked at star ratings and the percentage of books read by each author (like, if you read 5 of the 7 books written by a certain author.) I’m not volunteering to try that though πŸ˜‰ Who are your top read authors?

One Response to “My goodreads Most Read Authors”

That is a cool feature! I haven’t been using GoodReads all that long, so my most read author is Suzanne Collins (read the “Hunger Games” trilogoy), but I’m looking forward to seeing how my page changes over time!

Glad to see that Sarah Dessen made your list. Love her! Can’t wait for her new book!
