Warning!!!! Minor spoilers for the previous books ahead! Read with caution!!!

About the Book: Laurel now knows the truth: Yuki is a rare Winter faerie, the most powerful–and deadly–of all, and Klea plans to use her to help conquer and destroy Avalon. But Klea’s reach extends far beyond one wild Winter faerie. With Tamani, David, and Chelsea by her side, Laurel prepares to face what may be Avalon’s final days, in the stunning conclusion to the Wings series.

My Thoughts: This review is going to be very hard to write. I’ve put it off for some time now. And it’s not because the book wasn’t good. I loved it. However, it’s the final book of four so that makes it hard to convey what I loved without giving away too much info! Here goes nothing… 😉

For starters, I got an ARC of this one but put off reading it. I just didn’t want the series to end!!!! Wings was one of the first books I picked up when I started reading more YA titles. I loved it and it’s still one of my “go to” books when making recommendations to my students.

A number of my “frequent flyers” in the library were chomping at the bit for Destined. They read it and loved it. They kept asking and asking if I had read it yet but I just kept putting it off!!! I was a bit terrified that it wouldn’t end how I wanted it to. Actually, I couldn’t decide how I wanted it to end. Basically I just didn’t want it to end at all. If I don’t read it it’s not over yet, right?

Once I finally read it I began kicking myself for not doing so earlier. I should have trusted my students. I should have trusted Aprilynne Pike! The book picks up a couple hours after Illusions ended (Sidenote: I forgot about the cliffhanger ending of Illusions!! Aprilynne!! You are so sassy!) The reader is thrown right back in to Laurel’s world (worlds?) I loved that it was fast-paced from the get-go. I immediately felt like I was a part of the story. And it is go, go, go from there! I couldn’t put it down!

As I said, I don’t want to spoil Destined for anyone so I’ll just wrap up by saying I was really impressed with the ending. Loose ends are tied up but it’s not a neat and pretty bow. There is no way it could have been. Bittersweet. So, so bittersweet.

The Wings books are a great choice for readers who like stories about everyday teenage characters… with a twist! I can honestly say I’ve never had a student I recommended them to tell me they didn’t like them!
