I received this ARC from Publisher for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
So, I went to write my review for Firewalker, book two in the Worldwalker Trliogy, only to realize that I never reviewed the first book, Trial by Fire! I fail!!! I’m combining the two into this post.
Trial by Fire:
This world is trying to kill Lily Proctor. Her life-threatening allergies keep her from enjoying experiences that others in her hometown of Salem take for granted, which is why she is determined to enjoy her first high school party with her best friend and longtime crush, Tristan. But after a humiliating incident in front of half her graduating class, Lily wishes she could just disappear.
Suddenly, Lily is in a different Salem—one overrun with horrifying creatures and ruled by powerful women called Crucibles. Strongest and cruelest of them all is Lillian . . . Lily’s other self in this alternate universe.
What makes Lily weak at home is what makes her extraordinary in New Salem. In this confusing world, Lily is torn between responsibilities she can’t hope to shoulder alone and a love she never expected.
Firewalker:
Worlds divide, magic slays, and love lies in the second book of Josephine Angelini’s The Worldwalker Trilogy.
“You think I’m a monster, but my choices, as ruthless as they seem, are justified.”
Lily is back in her own universe, and she’s ready to start a new life with Rowan by her side. True, she almost died in the Pyre that fueled their escape from New Salem, and must hide her magic for the safety of everyone she cares about, but compared to fighting the Woven, the monstrous creatures inhabiting the alternate Salem, life is looking pretty good.
Unfortunately, Lillian, ruthless ruler of the 13 Cities, is not willing to let Lily go that easily. If she can’t persuade Lily to return to her world, she will force her to come back by doing away with the ones she loves.
Picking up right where Trial By Fire left off, Firewalker is another sexy, fast-paced, heartbreaking thrill ride from internationally bestselling author Josephine Angelini!
My Thoughts:
Ummm, a book where alternate universes are a reality and it uses the Salem Witch Trials as a starting point? And it’s written by Josie Angelini? Yes, please, I will read this now, thanks.
That was basically all I could think when I first heard about Trial by Fire. I was right to be excited. I am just so enthralled with the world of these books! I love the alternate reality and I love, love, love the Salem connection. Witchy books for the win!
Book one gives a solid introduction to the reality of the series and some of the history. We learn how the moving between worlds works, what the new world the main character travels to is like, how much it has in common with our world, the magic system, the different people groups, political systems… everything! The reader gets to go even deeper in book two. I felt like we got a look into the more private histories of some of the main characters. Secrets are revealed that had me questioning everything!
I loved that Firewalker picks up immediately after Trial by Fire ended. The characters were right where we left them. And if I thought they were in a precarious position after book one, I was screaming at the end of two! How am I supposed to wait to find out what happens next?!?! I mean, so much went down in the last third of Firewalker! I still can’t believe some of it. (In a good way!!)
If you like alternate worlds, romance, and magic the Worldwalker trilogy is for you!
