The world is a terrible place not to have a best friend.
Scarlett was always the strong one.
Halley was always content to follow in her wake.
Then Scarlett's boyfriend died, and Scarlett learned that she was pregnant.
Now Halley has to find the strength to take the lead and help Scarlett get through it.
Because true friendship is a promise you keep forever.
I can’t believe we’re already on the second to last week of the Summer of Sarah Dessen! Seems fitting that we’re focusing on Sarah’s second book, Someone Like You!
My Thoughts:
Someone Like You was one of Sarah Dessen’s first books. It’s also one of the first Dessen books I read. Halley and Scarlett’s friendship has stuck with me ever since. It just really struck me as authentic. I love both those girls. Seeing Scarlett reappear in later books makes me so happy!
The thing that always impresses me about this book is the fact that it deals with so many different issues but doesn’t feel like an “issue book” at all. There’s the death of Scarlett’s boyfriend, Scarlett’s pregnancy, family issues, and more. The story and characters are so strong that it all works together.
If you’re looking for a read featuring a great friendship, check out Someone Like You.

Confession – I’ve never read a Dessen book before. I know – it’s crazy! And I need to fix that. Would this be a good one to start with or is there one that’s even better? What do you think?
