Last week I was lucky enough to attend the Melissa de la Cruz signing at Oak Creek Library in Oak Creek, Wisconsin. Thanks to Boswell Book Company for helping to organize such a great event! A group of bloggers also got to meet up with Melissa afterwards to chat. It was so much fun! Melissa has been publishing books for a number of years. She’s also had a book turned into a TV show. These two factors, along with her other life experiences, give her a wealth of interesting and amusing stories to tell. If you get a chance to attend an event where she is speaking I highly recommend it!!!
Now onto the book! The Vampires of Manhattan takes place ten years after Melissa’s Blue Bloods YA series ends. In a way it’s a continuation of the series… we see many of the same characters and the background is the same. However, there are many new characters and the book is aimed more at the “new adult” to adult age groups. Here’s the “official” info:
The Vampires of Manhattan is “hipster horror”–the memorable characters from her Blue Bloods series are older and cooler than before, trying to build “Millennial” lives in the bustle of Manhattan while battling forces of evil and, of course, each other.
Hero of this sexy, paranormal action tale is Oliver Hazard-Perry, former human conduit, and Manhattan’s only human-turned-vampire, now the head of the Blue Bloods Coven. When his all-too-human lover is found murdered on the eve of the coven’s annual Four Hundred Ball–a celebration meant to usher in a new era in vampire society, and to mark the re-unification of the Coven after decades of unrest and decay–Oliver is devastated.
Now, not only is he trying to create a new world order for the immortal elite, he’s the prime suspect and is stalked by the newly installed head of the vampire secret police. Because according to the new rules, vampires who take human life can now be executed. Burned.
How can an immortal sentenced to die fight back? He has to find the killer–and the answers lie deep in vampire lore.
I’ve just started the book and it’s so fun to see where the Blue Bloods crew has ended up! I’m also really enjoying getting to know the new characters! You don’t have to have read Blue Bloods to enjoy this one, but fans of the series won’t want to miss it!
Thanks to Hyperion books I have TWO signed copies to giveaway! Use the rafflecopter below to enter:

My favorite character is Jack! He has so many personal battles throughout the series, close second is Schuylers grandma!
Frankie N
My favorite character is probably Mimi. I love characters who readers aren’t supposed to like, and Mimi is so interesting. I love her spunk and determination, plus we can see that she really does care for Jack.
Kimberly V
Schuyler Van Alen is my favorite
