About the Book: When Willa Dixon’s brother dies on the family lobster boat, her father forbids Willa from stepping foot on the deck again. With her family suffering, she’ll do anything to help out—even visiting the Grey Man.

Everyone in her small Maine town knows of this legendary spirit who haunts the lighthouse, controlling the fog and the fate of any vessel within his reach. But what Willa finds in the lighthouse isn’t a spirit at all, but a young man trapped inside until he collects one thousand souls.

Desperate to escape his cursed existence, Grey tries to seduce Willa to take his place. With her life on land in shambles, will she sacrifice herself?

My Thoughts: Yet another fabulous book from Saundra Mitchell! I have so much love for her books and want everybody to read them! She has such an engaging writing style.

Nobody writes the “place” of a story like Saundra Mitchell. Nobody. Whether it’s Louisiana, Baltimore in the late 1800s, or small town Maine, the setting is so well done. It comes alive as an integral part if the characters and the story, not just a backdrop. I don’t know how she does it with out bogging the flow of the story down with details. So impressive!

In Mistwalker readers are treated to a contemporary story blended with the legend of the Grey Man. The chapters alternate between the two main figures. From Willa we see the daily struggles she and her family are going through. The loss of her brother and the trial against his killer have affected them all differently. Grey gives us glimpses into his past. We see the choices that led to his life as The Grey Man as well as his struggles to get free. Although their circumstances appear vastly different at first glance, Willa and Grey are both at pivotal moments in their lives. I loved watching their stories unfold individually and then seeing how they connect.

A poignant and engrossing tale, Mistwalker captured my attention and kept me guessing at the outcome until the very end. Seriously, read a Saundra Mitchell novel. You won’t regret it.
