Top Ten Books I’d Recommend to a Fantasy Reader
Or, maybe to someone who wants to try fantasy! Actually, there are way to many! I’m going to narrow it down to fantasy books set either in the past or the past of a world not our own. Those are really my favorites πŸ™‚ If I were actually ranking these in order of which ones I love most there would be ten numbers ones. Seriously. These books have their own special bookcase because I love them so much.

1. Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo: I cannot recommend this book enough. I love it like crazycakes. Set in Ravka, a russian inspired land, this book is full of awesome.

2. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas: Lady assassin. Need I say more?

3. Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers: Lady assassins who are also the handmaidens of death. Yeah, that’s right. Assassin nuns.

4. Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder: I always associate this one with Throne of Glass and Grave Mercy. It has some elements of both and is awesome all on its own!

5. Silver Phoenix by Cindy Pon: Wonderful characters and world building. And another fabulous female character. And the food! Don’t read this one on an empty stomach πŸ™‚

6. The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima: The first in one of the best series I’ve ever read. The world building is incredible. I get so immersed in these tales!

7. Graceling by Kristen Cashore: Obviously.

8. Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta: I finally read this one this summer! Super excited to read the rest of the books. I was so interested in the characters and the kingdoms they hail from.

9. Alanna: The First Adventure by Tamora Pierce: So. Incredible. All of her books are amazing but this one was a game changer for me and the books that I read.

10. The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner: Why have more people not read this one? I don’t hear nearly enough people talking about the awesomeness that is this series. If you read and enjoyed any of the other titles listed check this one out too!

11. The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley: Yeah, I know, it’s top ten but there is no way I could have left any of these off. And Robin McKinely? Such a stellar story teller. Check out The Blue Sword as well.
