When I got an email asking if I wanted to be on the blog tour for Julie Kagawa’s upcoming release The Iron Traitor you had better believe I did a happy dance and replied, “HECK YES!!!” First, I think Julie Kagawa is delightful in general. But also, the Call of the Forgotten series is one of the rare “spin-off” or continuation series that I actually enjoy! She just does such a phenomenal job telling the story. And of course she’s got a devious streak that I’m sure rejoices in my suffering when she tugs my heartstrings!
My very favorite part of the Iron Fey and Call of the Forgotten books is the way Kagawa meshes a variety of “traditional” tales with her own special blend of faery lore. It makes the story so new and fresh! When I first started reading the Iron Fey series I felt like I was on solid ground. The introduction of the fey aspect didn’t throw me because I was familiar with the lore. Winter and summer courts, changelings, even the reveal of Robin Goodfellow… all things I knew and felt an affinity for. And then Kagawa’s aforementioned devious streak shows up. All of the sudden there were twists I’d never seen before. And. I. Was. Hooked. So much for solid ground! Much of the lore was still familiar and characters I knew and loved still appeared (Cat sith anyone?!?!) but the rules changed. As the story progresses more and more of Kagawa’s created lore is revealed. (I don’t want to give any big secrets away to those who haven’t read the series so I’m going to leave it at that!) I absolutely loved this. I loved that she took these wonderful and involved stories from all over and wove them together. And then, as if that wasn’t enough, she made them her own. This mix of the familiar and the unknown keeps me on the edge of my seat. I just love seeing “new” characters that I know and love show up (like The Big Bad Wolf in The Iron Knight!) With each book I cannot wait to see where Julie Kagawa will take us next!

About the Book:
Book 2 in the Call of the Forgotten from The Iron Fey series
Publication date: October 29th by Harlequin Teen
In the real world, when you vanish into thin air for a week, people tend to notice.
After his unexpected journey into the lands of the fey, Ethan Chase just wants to get back to normal. Well, as “normal” as you can be when you see faeries every day of your life. Suddenly the former loner with the bad reputation has someone to try for-his girlfriend, Kenzie. Never mind that he’s forbidden to see her again.
But when your name is Ethan Chase and your sister is one of the most powerful faeries in the Nevernever, “normal” simply isn’t to be. For Ethan’s nephew, Keirran, is missing, and may be on the verge of doing something unthinkable in the name of saving his own love. Something that will fracture the human and faery worlds forever, and give rise to the dangerous fey known as the Forgotten. As Ethan’s and Keirran’s fates entwine and Keirran slips further into darkness, Ethan’s next choice may decide the fate of them all.
About the Author:
Julie Kagawa was born in Sacramento, California. But nothing exciting really happened to her there. So, at the age of nine she and her family moved to Hawaii, which she soon discovered was inhabited by large carnivorous insects, colonies of house geckos and frequent hurricanes. She spent much of her time in the ocean, when she wasn’t getting chased out of it by reef sharks, jellyfish and the odd eel.
To pay the rent, Julie worked in different bookstores over the years, but discovered the managers frowned upon her reading the books she was supposed to be shelving. So she turned to her other passion: training animals. She worked as a professional dog trainer for several years, dodging Chihuahua bites and overly enthusiastic Labradors, until her first book sold and she stopped training to write full-time.
Julie now lives in Louisville, Kentucky, where the frequency of shark attacks are at an all-time low. She lives with her husband, two obnoxious cats, one Australian shepherd who is too smart for his own good and the latest addition, a hyperactive Papillon puppy.
