Organizing TBR piles…. HELP!

July 22, 2013 Uncategorized 0

So, I have an absurd amount of books to read. Some are ones I requested for review, some are unsolicited review copies, and some are books I just plain want to read. And the pile just keeps growing and growing. At first I organized like this:

Now, you can’t really tell but originally they started out as stacks organized by the month the book came out. Obviously this didn’t work. I just kept throwing more books on and they got  out of order and yeah. Plus, I hate having stacks of books all over. Fail.

So I had the great idea to buy some containers and use those to organize.

Each drawer was supposed to be for something else… requested review copies, unsolicited ones I wanted to read, books already out I needed to get to, and requested review copies that I missed the release week for. Notice the empty drawer and stacks of books on top? Yeah, that didn’t work either.

Now I’m trying a bookcase:

The books start at the top shelf with books I’ve accepted from authors or publishers that are already out. Then they ARCs are organized by release date. If I haven’t read previous books in the series they’re at the top as well. Hopefully this will help a bit. I don’t know. It doesn’t take into account all the finished books I want to read.

AND! Netgalley and Edelweiss copies! I try to keep a note card with all the titles I have written in the order they’re coming out. I did a great job keeping up when I was working out. I’d read while in the elliptical machine. I guess this just means I need to get to the gym again!

I always feel like there must be some magical way of organizing that will let me get through all the books. Like, somehow there will be more hours in the day to read. I know that’s not going to happen but maybe you have a system that would work for me too?

What about it? How do you organize your TBR pile? What works for you? Maybe I should start a spreadsheet? Then I could keep track of if I reviewed it and where I posted my reviews. Anyone do that? Thoughts? Commiserating statements? Etc…?
