Welcome to the next stop on the blog tour for Truth or Dare by Jacqueline Green. Today I have an interview with the author based on one of the main characters Guinness. The publisher has also generously provided FIVE copies of the books as a giveaway! But first, a bit  about Truth or Dare:

In Jacqueline Green’s highly charged debut thriller, perfect for fans of Pretty Little Liars, an innocent game of TRUTH OR DARE spins out of control for three girls who find it’s no longer a party game. It’s do or die.
It all started on a whim: the game was a way for Tenley Reed to reclaim her popularity, a chance for perfect Caitlin “Angel” Thomas to prove she’s more than her Harvard application. Loner Sydney Morgan wasn’t even there; she was hiding behind her camera like usual. But when all three start receiving mysterious dares long after the party has ended, they’re forced to play along—or risk exposing their darkest secrets.
Paranoia builds as each little slip of paper taunts the girls with dares that threaten not just their reputations but also their lives. How far will Tenley, Caitlin and Sydney go to keep the truth from  surfacing? And who’s behind this twisted game?

And to let you know a bit about Guinness, here’s an excerpt from the book:

When Sydney had arrived at Sunrise, she’d been filled with a cavernous anger that had terrified people, chased them away. But Guinness had met her head-on. She remembered her worst night at Sunrise, when the anger had gotten so big, so strong, it threatened to swallow her right up. She’d snuck into Guinness’s room and even though it was the middle of the night, even though she was breaking every single rule by being there, he didn’t hesitate, didn’t even blink.
“Come with me,” he’d whispered. He’d taken her to the darkroom and given her a lesson in developing. As they moved steadily through the dark stillness of the room, methodically dipping the paper in bin
after bin, Sydney actually felt calm.
It had felt so nice, having someone know about her issues with anger— and not care. She’d even come close to telling him the secret she carried everywhere with her. But at the last minute, she’d stopped
herself.

Interview:

Is Guinness based on anyone you’ve ever dated (or wanted to), or is he pure wish fulfillment?
Guinness is an amalgamation of many different guys, some real, some imaginary. There are great parts to him—how he understands Sydney better than anyone, how he’s been her rock time and again. But there are bad parts, too. He has a hard time giving all of himself to anyone, and I think most girls have encountered at least one guy like that!

Guinness is caught in a bit of a love triangle between Sydney and Tenley. Did you have fun writing about the tension between the three characters?
Absolutely! Tenley and Sydney have very different relationships with Guinness, so it was fun to explore that. I thought a lot about what it was like for a guy to want to be with one girl, but be tempted by another. And of course, how that made both girls feel.

Guinness and Sydney share a love for photography. What hobby/interest are you passionate about?
Reading has always been my biggest passion. One of my favorite childhood memories is my mom giving me my very first chapter book. As I got older, I used to drive my sister crazy by always having my nose in a book. When we were on family vacations, she would beg me to stop reading and hang out with her instead! I’ve been known to do the same thing to my husband now…
Guinness has an unusual tattoo. Do you have a tattoo? Or…if you could get any tattoo, what would it be and where would you get it?
I don’t have any tattoos. Mainly because I’m kind of a wimp. I used to really want a tattoo of a ladybug on my big toe. I once even asked a tattoo artist about it. He told me that toe tattoos fade really quickly, which of course served as the perfect out for a wimp like me.

Guinness has nicknames for both Sydney (“Blue”) and Tenley (“Tiny”). What was your nickname growing up?
I’m probably going to regret sharing this, but…when my sister was younger, she went through a phase where she started every word with a W. During that phase, she took to calling me Wackie instead of Jackie. Somehow, my friends got wind of that story in high school and from then on out, my nickname was Wacky. I like to tell myself it was Wackie with an ie, not Wacky like crazy, but that might be wishful thinking!

Very fun! Thanks to Jacqueline Green for answering the questions 🙂 Now for the giveaway. US only. No PO boxes. Thanks to Little, Brown Books for Young Readers for the giveaway!
