About the Book: Things I know about Reece Malcolm:

1. She graduated from New York University.
2. She lives in or near Los Angeles.
3. Since her first novel was released, she’s been on the New York Times bestseller list every week.
4. She likes strong coffee and bourbon.
5. She’s my mother.

Devan knows very little about Reece Malcolm, until the day her father dies and she’s shipped off to live with the mother she’s never met. All she has is a list of notebook entries that doesn’t add up to much.

L.A. offers a whole new world to Devan—a performing arts school allows her to pursue her passion for show choir and musicals, a new circle of friends helps to draw her out of her shell, and an intriguing boy opens up possibilities for her first love.

But then the Reece Malcolm list gets a surprising new entry. Now that Devan is so close to having it all, can she handle the possibility of losing everything?

My Thoughts: The Reece Malcolm List was such a delight to read. Basically, I loved everything about it. I think my tweet upon finishing it sums up my feelings:

Seriously. It’s been some time since I felt so content upon finishing a book. And honestly, I think I forgot just how satisfying it is to have a feeling of closure. Don’t get me wrong, I love Devan as a character and would love to see more of her. Still, I felt like I was okay letting her go. The major conflicts were resolved or on the path to resolution. I felt confident that Devan has the support and outlook she needs to not only survive but thrive. She’s in a good place and that left me as the reader in one as well.

Speaking of Devan, Amy Spalding does an amazing job writing an authentic teen voice. Devan and her classmates were believable characters in believable situations. So. Refreshing. But I do Amy Spalding a disservice if I limit her amazing characters to the teens in this book. Devan’s mother Reece and Reece’s boyfriend Brad totally stole the show for me. Like, Brad may be one of my favorite characters ever. ALl of the characters were just so well done.

There were just so very many things I loved. The performing arts aspect, the fact that Devan and her mother are strangers thrown together, Devan’s relationsip woes, just everything about the book. I can’t say it enough, The Reece Malcolm List is pretty much perfection. Don’t miss this fabulous debut. I’ll be buying a copy and adding Amy Spalding to my “must read authors” list. The Reece Malcolm List is a story I can see myself reading again and again.
