2012: A Year in Books

December 13, 2012 Uncategorized 0

For the past three years Jamie over at The Perpetual Page-Turner has done an end of the year survey of  sorts. I love this idea so I thought I’d join in this year. I jumped around a bit and didn’t answer everything but you get the picture!

For the first few questions I made a “prezi” because I wanted to practice using it with my students 🙂

I really can’t name one favorite. I did finally boil it down to three:
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan.

Favorite cover of a book you read in 2012:

Most memorable character in 2012?
Sean Kendrick from The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater: I think much of this has to do with Steve West, the guy who read Sean’s parts in the audiobook. AMAZINGI!!!!

Kami Glass from Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan: I loved her sense of humor and how quirky she is.
The Darkiling from Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo: I love Mal but there is just something so memorable about The Darkling!

Book that had the greatest impact on you in 2012?
I sobbed through four books:

Alice Bliss by Laura Harrington
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
When You Were Here by Daisy Whitney
The Knife of Never Letting Go (and, let’s be real here, The Ask and The Answer) by Patrick Ness

Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2012 to finally read? The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness. Oh. My. Stars. This book. I can’t even. I am SO GLAD that all the books were released when I started (although I have yet to read the third and final one…)

All four of the Ruby Oliver books by E. Lockhart. Those books were practically made for me. How had I not read them?!?!?

Book That Had A Scene In It That Had You Reeling And Dying To Talk To Somebody About It?
The only books that I can remember NEEDING to talk to some one about are The Knife of Never Letting Go and The Ask and The Answer by Patrick Ness. Lisa got some pretty frantic emails over those!

Favorite Book You Read in 2012 From An Author You Read Previously

Black Heart by Holly Black. I have really loved all Holly’s books but there is just something about the final Curse Workers book that really gets to me! You should really read this series!

Best Book You Read That You Read Based SOLELY On A Recommendation From Somebody Else:

Cinder by Marissa Meyer: I would never have picked this one up if I hadn’t read so many glowing reviews!

Book Blogging/Reading Life in 2012

New favorite book blog you discovered in 2012?

I’ve really enjoyed My Sister’s Bookshelf and Quinn’s Book Nook.

Favorite review that you wrote in 2012?

I think my review of Black Heart is one of my very favorites. I also liked my review of Such a Rush. I think you can just really see how excited I was about those books!

Most thought-provoking review or discussion you read on somebody else’s blog?

Pretty much everything on Stacked. Those ladies always get me thinking.

Best event that you participated in (author signings, festivals, virtual events, memes, etc.)?
I went to the Romantic Times conference for the first time this year. They have a whole YA track and it is pretty much the best thing ever!

Josie Angelini, Me, Amy Plum 🙂

Also, this. I don’t even remember what signing this is but it’s pretty much sums up why I am grateful for blogging and the book blogging community.

Best moment of book blogging in 2012?
Every time someone tells me they read a book because of a recommendation I gave or post I wrote. The. Best. Ever.

Most Popular Post This Year On Your Blog (whether it be by comments or views)?
The post with the most views this year is the Bitter Blood blog tour and author interview post. It even beat out my Shadow Hunter Shopping Guide from 2011 (which has been the most popular FOREVER!)
As far as discussions go, my Don’t Be Hateful post from January is by far the most popular. Maggie Stiefvater even commented on it (I nearly died. SUCH a fangirl!)

Best bookish discovery (book related sites, book stores, etc.)?

I usually drive down to Anderson’s Bookshop in Naperville, IL for book signings (They are amazing and I love them!) This year I attended a few signings put on by Boswell Book Company in Milwaukee, WI. It’s closer to me and I love that many of their events take place at libraries! Also, I visited the actual store and LOVE it!

Looking Ahead…

One Book You Didn’t Get To In 2012 But Will Be Your Number 1 Priority in 2013?

Book You Are Most Anticipating For 2013?

Oh goodness. When I did my Top Ten Tuesday post for this topic it ended up being more like 20 books! I think I’ll have to go with Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins or Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare. I am so crazy excited for these!

One Thing You Hope To Accomplish Or Do In Your Reading/Blogging In 2013?

I really need to get more organized. It’s really ridiculous. I want to do a better job of keeping track of what I read as well. Also, I’d just kind of like to be April because I think she does a pretty amazing job with the whole blogging thing! That’s not creepy, right?!?
