About the Book: The missing dead call to Violet. They want to be found.
Violet can sense the echoes of those who’ve been murdered—and the matching imprint that clings to their killers. Only those closest to her know what she is capable of, but when she discovers the body of a young boy she also draws the attention of the FBI, threatening her entire way of life.
As Violet works to keep her morbid ability a secret, she unwittingly becomes the object of a dangerous obsession. Normally she’d turn to her best friend, Jay, except now that they are officially a couple, the rules of their relationship seem to have changed. And with Jay spending more and more time with his new friend Mike, Violet is left with too much time on her hands as she wonders where things went wrong. But when she fills the void by digging into Mike’s tragic family history, she stumbles upon a dark truth that could put everyone in danger.
My Thoughts: Earlier this month I posted the Top Ten Things I Loved about The Body Finder (The first book in the series.) I mentioned that I only meant to read a couple chapters but then got sucked in and was too creeped out to go to sleep. Apparently I never learn. I SWEAR I was just going to read for thirty minutes to an hour… yeah, rrrriiiiight Heidi. Like that ever works!
Desires of the Dead picks up shortly after the events of The Body Finder. Jay and Violet have physically recovered from the harrowing events they went through. Emotionally however… let’s just say there are still some things to work through. You try being stalked by “crazy psycho killer” guy and coming out of it unscathed!
I am sometimes hesitant when starting second books… especially when I loved the first one as much as I loved The Body Finder. I want to love them so much that I can be easily disappointed. Thankfully Desires of the Dead is awesome in it’s own right so it wasn’t an issue! We get more echos, more mystery, more twists, more creeptastic monologues, and most importantly… more Jay!!!! (Yes I have a crush. What of it?) Violet faces tough decisions and situations. There were times when I wanted to shake her but in the end she really owns her “special talent” and makes choices that are right for her. I was engaged in the story right from the beginning and couldn’t put it down until I knew how it all panned out. When finished, I closed the book with a sigh and thought, “Awesome… when does the next one come out?”
