September “Recommended by…” Part One

September 10, 2014 "Recommended by..." 1

rec

“Recommended by…” is a monthly feature in which an awesome bookish person recommends a book that I just have to read. It’s posted in two parts. Part one is the intro to the recommender and the recommendation. Part two posts later in the month and recaps my thoughts on the book.

The Recommender:

anna

If you don’t know Anna you are missing out! You need to check out her blog and follow her on twitter. She is fabulous! I’m so thankful we live near enough that we can attend the same events now and then 🙂

I read. A lot. Mostly whatever YA novels the library has on hold for me that week. Sometimes grown-up books if my book club makes me.

I’m a grownup, married lady who still firmly believes that high schools + boys make for the best books. Don’t you agree?

When I’m not reading, I…well, nope…still reading. I work as a writer/editor/Web producer based out of Chicago.

The Recommendation:

16101128After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.

Now, it’s the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker.

Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie’s only hope for rescuing her brother—or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.

Why did Anna recommend this one:
Okay, I really think you need to have to read The 5th Wave for many reasons, but these specifically:

1. I loved it.
2. Aliens! The apocalypse! Based on some books I know you’ve loved (The Knife of Never Letting Go, for example), I feel pretty confident in this recommendation.
3. The characters in this book are my favorite kind: unreliable! You can never quite tell where their allegiances lie, and I love how it keeps you guessing.
4. It’s going to be made into a movie soon. And I absolutely cannot allow you to watch it without reading the book first.
So there. Read it. Review it. Report back.

Anna is one of my very favorite people, bookish or non! I totally trust her recommendations. She has never steered me wrong before. I can’t wait to start this one this month! I have the audio and a finished copy so I think I’ll be mixing it up. What do you think? Have you read it? Do you plan to before the movie comes out?!?!

Thanks to Anna for the recommendation!
