About the Book: An assassin’s loyalties are always in doubt.
But her heart never wavers.

After a year of hard labor in the Salt Mines of Endovier, eighteen-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien has won the king’s contest to become the new royal assassin. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown – a secret she hides from even her most intimate confidantes.

Keeping up the deadly charade—while pretending to do the king’s bidding—will test her in frightening new ways, especially when she’s given a task that could jeopardize everything she’s come to care for. And there are far more dangerous forces gathering on the horizon — forces that threaten to destroy her entire world, and will surely force Celaena to make a choice.

Where do the assassin’s loyalties lie, and who is she most willing to fight for?

My Thoughts: So, so, so much love for this book. Like, so much. I read it the week it was released and haven’t really been able to write a coherent review until now. And, frankly, I make no guarantees to coherency. I basically just want to say I love this and I love that and I love x and I love y and and and… you get the gist.

For some reason it took me awhile to finally get around to reading Throne of Glass but once I read it I freaked out about how awesome it was. I can’t believe I’m going to say this but I think I loved Crown of Midnight even more. It is one of the best second-in-a-series books I’ve ever read. So often middle books seem to exist only to set up book three. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to include everything you need to make the final book work while still maintaining the integrity of the middle book’s own story. Sarah J. Maas nails it. Like Throne of Glass before it, Crown of Midnight perfectly sets the reader up for the next leg of the story while still being awesome in it’s own right.

I honestly don’t have a single criticism of this book. Fierce female main character, swoon worthy love interest (or interests!), kick butt setting… what more could you ask for? You want action, tension, mystery, kissing?!?! You got it! Crown of Midnight was such a pleasure to read. Bonus? That thing we learn at the end?!?! I love being right!
