About the Book: Scholastic’s next multi-platform mega-event begins here! History is broken, and three kids must travel back in time to set it right!

When best friends Dak Smyth and Sera Froste stumble upon the secret of time travel — a hand-held device known as the Infinity Ring — they’re swept up in a centuries-long secret war for the fate of mankind. Recruited by the Hystorians, a secret society that dates back to Aristotle, the kids learn that history has gone disastrously off course. Now it’s up to Dak, Sera, and teenage Hystorian-in-training Riq to travel back in time to fix the Great Breaks . . . and to save Dak’s missing parents while they’re at it. First stop: Spain, 1492, where a sailor named Christopher Columbus is about to be thrown overboard in a deadly mutiny! (goodreads)

My Thoughts: So. Much. Fun. The Infinity Ring series is a great blend of history, action, and adventure. It’s set up a bit like the 39 Clues series. Each book in the series is written by a different author and there is an online element that enhances the story. I love this because it gets my “I don’t like to read” students interested and then all of the sudden they’re reading! Plus it’s just fun 🙂

We learn in A Mutiny in Time that something in history went horribly wrong. The world that the main characters (Dak and Sera) live in is very similar to our world but slightly different. A somewhat sinister group basically runs the world. They orchestrated “breaks” in history. This means that they changed major events which then changed the course of the world. Dak and Sera have to travel back in time to fix these breaks. Of course they don’t know what the breaks are! In their world the “right” thing never happened. I really enjoyed seeing the ways that history was reworked in a believable way and the outcome it could have had. I’m a history geek so I just liked the history aspect in general!

This series is one that has already proven popular in my LMC. Now that I’ve read the first one I can’t wait to talk about the series with my students!
