The Book I am Most Thankful For

November 4, 2011 Uncategorized 1

I am most thankful for the The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein and Best Book of Animal Stories edited by Pauline Rush Evans. These are the books that I remember being read to me the most as a child. I don’t know if you can really tell from the picture below but they are SO WORN OUT! They are also my most cherished books.

It’s not that these books are so fabulous. It’s more the memories I attach with them. They are the books that made me fall in love with reading. I remember how excited I would get when my dad was home for my bedtime and we could crawl into my bed and read my favorite of the animal stories, “Rikki Tikki Tavi.” The Giving Tree was my aunt’s book. When we would go and visit I would climb up in to the papasan chair and look at the book that had no color in it. I always wanted to color the pictures! I am so thankful that my dad and my aunt (and other family members!) took the time to read to me. They used books like Animal Stories and The Giving Tree to foster in me a love of reading and books. I truly don’t know where I’d be with out these books (or really, the people who read them to me.)
