About the Book: Scarlett March lives to hunt the Fenris–the werewolves that took her eye when she was defending her sister Rosie from a brutal attack. Armed with a razor-sharp hatchet and blood-red cloak, Scarlett is an expert at luring and slaying the wolves. She’s determined to protect other young girls from a grisly death, and her raging heart will not rest until every single wolf is dead.

Rosie March once felt her bond with her sister was unbreakable. Owing Scarlett her life, Rosie hunts ferociously alongside her. But even as more girls’ bodies pile up in the city and the Fenris seem to be gaining power, Rosie dreams of a life beyond the wolves. She finds herself drawn to Silas, a young woodsman who is deadly with an ax and Scarlett’s only friend–but does loving him mean betraying her sister and all that they’ve worked for?

My Thoughts: Before I go one… the cover. How amazing is that?!?! I love it so much! I love the color and the design and just everything about it. It had a huge impact on me picking up the book. I originally started reading it because I was going to the Smart Chicks Kick It tour LAST YEAR!! I just picked it back up to finish a couple of weeks ago.

Aside from the cover this book has two things I really love: multiple narrators and fairy tale retellings. Those were definitely my two favorite parts of this book. Who doesn’t want a love interest who can handle an axe? There were many scenes where I really admired the writing and the way Pearce portrayed a character or n event. I was interested in learning more about the Fenris and the history of the main characters.

While I liked all the things I mentioned above the book as a whole didn’t really do it for me. As I said, I started it last year and just couldn’t really get in to it. It was a bit slow for me and I started to get fed up (mostly with Scarlett.) When I picked it back up a couple of weeks ago I enjoyed it much more. I had stopped reading just as it was really ramping up. The end redeemed many of the issues I had with the beginning and overall I found it an interesting read. I would consider it something to check out if you have the time and enjoy modern day fairy tale retellings.
