Happy release day to Sarah Rees Brennan and The Demon’s Surrender! You know what I’ll be doing today!
To celebrate I have two very special things for you. First and foremost… A guest post from Sarah Rees Brennan:
With the third and final book in my trilogy coming out, I thought it was time to stand up and talk about Third Books of My Heart. Oddly enough, none of them are definitely trilogies… I guess that’s because when you love something, you always want more.
My Top Three Third Books In A Series
King of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner
The Queen’s Thief series did not end at three books (for which I offer blessings and bicycles!) but I think the third book is very close to being a perfect book. It took all the fun of the first book and its very tricksy hero, and the surprise twistiness and darkness of the second book, and made this BEAUTIFUL WHOLE. The heroine is a cruel cold-hearted queen! The hero is a reluctant king who hates fighting and somewhat fears the queen and fears almost nothing else, including gods.
And nothing is as it seems, including the description I just gave you. Megan Whalen Turner is a genius.
Black Heart by Holly Black
Who can say if the third book in the Curse Workers series will be the last? But I am crazy about this series about magical mobsters, messed-up families and the complicated love of a mob boss’s daughter and a budding noir detective boy (think Joseph Gordon Levitt in Brick, but with magic all around. Oh, Cassel). And in this book, one of my favourite characters gets some extra pagetime. You’ll see. Oh, you’ll all see.
Magic Strikes by Ilona Andrews
An adult series starring a bad-tempered mercenary and the werelion who loves her. Hilarious and strange, with awesome moments that break away from all other serieseses – the heroine heals her Inner Pain through collecting a family of awesome ladies about her, and kicks the hero’s ass when she finds him in her bedroom. The lady is unclothed, sir, have some respect! In this book, they have to fight in gladiatorial games. And bathe together. Work AND play, baby.
Thanks for sharing Sarah! I totally agree with your first one, am jealous you’ve read the second, and just put the third on hold at my local library!
