The one guy Bailey Rydell can’t stand is actually the boy of her dreams—she just doesn’t know it yet.

Classic movie fan Bailey “Mink” Rydell has spent months crushing on a witty film geek she only knows online as Alex. Two coasts separate the teens until Bailey moves in with her dad, who lives in the same California surfing town as her online crush.

Faced with doubts (what if he’s a creep in real life—or worse?), Bailey doesn’t tell Alex she’s moved to his hometown. Or that she’s landed a job at the local tourist-trap museum. Or that she’s being heckled daily by the irritatingly hot museum security guard, Porter Roth—a.k.a. her new archnemesis. But life is whole lot messier than the movies, especially when Bailey discovers that tricky fine line between hate, love, and whatever it is she’s starting to feel for Porter.

And as the summer months go by, Bailey must choose whether to cling to a dreamy online fantasy in Alex or take a risk on an imperfect reality with Porter. The choice is both simpler and more complicated than she realizes, because Porter Roth is hiding a secret of his own: Porter is Alex…Approximately.

My Thoughts:

I have to admit, I almost didn’t read this one. No particular reason. I just had a lot on my TBR for March/April. However, a number of friends/bloggers were talking about how excited they were for it and, later, how much they loved it. So, I decided I had to add it to my April list. I am so glad I did!

Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett was the third book in a row that I read containing two main characters who didn’t like each other IRL but totally had a connection going over some sort of anonymous communication. I think it speaks to the quality of each story (this one, Geekerella, and, Letters to the Lost) that I never got confused. Each was a unique and enjoyable reading experience!

This book seemed to fly by. I just loved Bailey and Porter’s interactions.. especially when they were driving each other crazy! It was so fun to see how Bennett developed their relationship from not liking each other at all to being crazy for one another. Of course I also loved getting to know more about the characters as well. Each new revelation helped the reader to understand where they were coming from and why they acted the ways they did.

And I have to say… I just really, really, really liked Porter. He’s so endearing!

Alex, Approximately reminded me why I so enjoy YA romance. The only problem? Now that’s all I want to read!
