When Griffin’s first love and ex-boyfriend, Theo, dies in a drowning accident, his universe implodes. Even though Theo had moved to California for college and started seeing Jackson, Griffin never doubted Theo would come back to him when the time was right. But now, the future he’s been imagining for himself has gone far off course.

To make things worse, the only person who truly understands his heartache is Jackson. But no matter how much they open up to each other, Griffin’s downward spiral continues. He’s losing himself in his obsessive compulsions and destructive choices, and the secrets he’s been keeping are tearing him apart.

If Griffin is ever to rebuild his future, he must first confront his history, every last heartbreaking piece in the puzzle of his life.

My Thoughts:

If you follow me on twitter you might have noticed that I simply loved this book. I was just so taken by the story. And, while (based on my love for More Happy Than Not) I anticipated liking it, I did not anticipate falling so hard, so fast.

I started to read History Is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera at school but my first notes about it read, “Two pages in and I’m already broken.” So I had to take a break and read it at home where I could cry unnoticed. I read until I had to go to sleep. Just before stopping I tweeted, “This book is blowing my mind and breaking my heart but all I want to do is keep reading.” And it was so, so true. I did not want to stop at all. I did, but couldn’t wait through a whole work day to finish it! I ended up in the back room of my school library sobbing as I reached the end. It was just so beautiful. Raw and heart breaking, yes. But also hopeful and full of so much love. And just so damn honest.

Seriously. I don’t even know how to talk about how much I love this book. Reading it had a profound impact on me. Adam brings these characters to life in such a way that the reader is immediately connected to them. Even Theo, who is dead the entire book! Seeing him through Griffin’s memories is such powerful thing. Gah! Everything about this book was powerful!!! Mad love.

In short, Adam Silvera is a genius and you all need to read his books ASAP.
