Today I have my thoughts on The Girl at Midnight PLUS a giveaway for the blog tour 🙂
About the Book:
Beneath the streets of New York City live the Avicen, an ancient race of people with feathers for hair and magic running through their veins. Age-old enchantments keep them hidden from humans. My Thoughts:
More fantasy! My heart is happy. The Girl at Midnight by Melissa Grey is a promising start to a new fantasy series.
I was really impressed with the worldbuilding. Often with a debut novel there is either too much telling (and not enough showing) or a lack explanation all together. Grey did a excellent job of weaving the pertinent information into the story authentically. Also, I just really enjoyed the world she created! The non-human races were interesting and I loved learning more about them. I’d be interested in more of their history (and more about why they’re at war!) in future books.
Echo is a character I enjoyed following. She’s clever and strong and witty and walks a bit on the wild side. Also, she can travel pretty much anywhere with this magic powder she has. How cool would that be?!?!? There’s never a dull moment with her!! As much as she made me laugh, I also found my heart breaking for her. She so desperately wants to belong somewhere. I need that to happen for her!
I’m very interested to see where this series goes. The Girl at Midnight tells a great story but left me wanting more! Can’t wait for the next book.
