This is a world divided by blood – red or silver.

The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change.

That is, until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power.

Fearful of Mare’s potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime.

But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance – Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart ...

My Thoughts:

This book has been on my TBR since I got a copy in my first Uppercase Box. However, life happened and I never got around to it. This year a group of student read it and fell head over heels. These kids are obsessed! I can totally see why.

Red Queen has that vibe that my students love. It’s got a tough girl who is stronger than she knows, people fighting back against oppression, danger, action, a bit of romance… all the things to grab your attention! I was entertained the entire time I was reading it. I admit, when I first started reading I kept noticing similarities with other books (The SelectionLegendThe Hunger Games, etc…) This didn’t really bother me and I was soon caught up in Mare’s story. I loved all the twists and turns. I never quite knew who to trust!

My students highly recommended Red Queen and I’m glad I listened to them. I can tell that this book will never be on my library shelf… it’ll always be in the hands of students!

This book got so big so fast, and the momentum just keeps going! Even now, so long after the release I still see so many new people discovering and loving it. I think this is going to be the next big book series, and it won’t be long before we see Mare on the big screen!
